(MLive.com)   Marshall Faulk thinks Matthew Stafford is overrated because "everybody throws for 5,000 yards now," if by "everybody" you mean a total of 4 quarterbacks in the history of the NFL   (mlive.com) divider line 8

Everyone throws for 5000 yards? Brees twice, Marino, Brady, and Stafford. 5 quarterbacks. Yeah, that's about everyone.

NewWorldDan: Having an elite reciever certainly makes a big difference. Randy Moss carried Daunte Culpepper to the pro-bowl. I watched Staffard in a few games this year. Not saying he's an A list quarterback, but he's well above average. Give him a few years and see how he evolves. Brady began his career as an effective game manager riding a monster defense and developed into the elite passer that we see today. And he's still Eli's biatch. In conclusion, Staffard is a far better QB than any prospect the Lions might find to replace him. I epxect him to be starting in Detroit for the next decade.

Uh, Eli is still an effective game manager riding a monster defense. The difference between Brady at that point in his career and Eli is that Brady didn't have a receiver anywhere close to Nicks.

Who cares what a has been thinks? After all, it wasn't like he did anything special. Everybody rushes for 10,000 yards and has 5,000 in receiving these days.

SlothB77: if that was Tim Tebow, we'd have had a dozen threads by now. But Jeremy Lin: crickets.

And time to bask in Linsanity is now, not later, considering Melo will return soon and the Knicks offense can revert back to standing around watching Melo iso and settle for a contested 20 footer.

Why is it that the sports pundits who know the least about sports are almost always former athletes?

ha-ha-guy: Even if everyone was throwing for 5000 yards, that man does it on the Lions...

/although having Megatron helps
//he also does it with minimal run game and an offensive line that really isn't that great

I'm no Lions fan, but now that they've made the playoffs I think it's time to drop the "it's the Lions" mentality. We can all pick on the Jaguars or something.

Jubeebee: He's an asshole who plays dirty whenever he gets the chance

Remember when that was the whole POINT of the league?

The thing I remember most about Stafford is that game (against the Browns? Bengals?) where he has his shoulder severely messed up, demands to be let back in the game (sneaking past the trainers), and throws the game-winning TD pass.
