This is a late parrot: I can't believe the Peke won.I was hoping for the Irish Setter or the Dachsund but I thought the Doberman was the class of the field.
Queensowntalia: As has been pointed out in the Gawker thread:[img.photobucket.com image 317x233]
croesius: I kinda had a wild hope that the weimeriner (yeah, you get the gist) who was rescued from an abusive life would have won. Knew there wasn't a chance in hell, but that dog rocked.
Pontious Pilates: Maddox the Katrina/Rita rescue agrees. He probably couldn't take a punch, but as a whippet/jack russell mix, he will outrun and outjump just about anyone who tries.[i1228.photobucket.com image 576x386]
Steve Zodiac: KrispyKritter: Pontious Pilates: Hurray. More grist for the puppy mills./Don't breed or buy while homeless pets die.The problem is when someone wants to buy a breed dog ( of any type) there aren't good resources for avoiding puppy mills. The AKC and most breeders associations will not provide lists of breeders, either preferred ones or places to avoid. ASCPA or Humane Societies don't have the budgets and they need to place the animals they have. So people go to puppy mills because the mills advertise that they have purebreds, which almost no other place does. You can rant about rescue dog shelters and public dog pounds being the places you should get dogs but some people want purebreds for whatever reason.
Canton: Cndn Bacon: flaflaflowhigh: [fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net image 270x360]This is a real dog in its natural habitat...the bleachers at a San Francisco Giants game. This is mine in what he wishes was his natural habitat:[i39.tinypic.com image 375x500]and afterwards:[i40.tinypic.com image 375x500]Why anyone would get a purebred dog unless they need them for the express purpose of what they were bred for (like a hunting dog) is beyond me.I love the look on his face on the second pic!In general, I'm a fan of mutts, but working dogs that haven't been inbred to death can make good, predictable pets, even if they're not doing the jobs they were originally bred to do. Labs are a popular choice, of course, and for people who like smaller dogs, there are always Cardigan Welsh Corgis. My grandma had two of them, and they were wonderful dogs.
ISubmittedThisYesterdayWithAMuchFunnierHeadline: Meanwhile, in a dark, dusty crawlspace in Beijing, a portrait of a fluffy Pekingese ages and decays, its subject's puppy bloom ravaged by vice and evil and sin.Okay, what the farkity fark?

Cndn Bacon: Neondistraction: Whoever named that dog needs to be punched somewhere sensitive.FTFA: A Pekingese named Malachy won Best in ShowWhat's wrong with Malachy? I think it's one of the least offensive names of a show-winning dog that I I've heard.Or did you just read the article's headline and think the name of the dog was actually Cutesy Bootsy Booboo?
