Kevin Costner effectively usurped the role of music supervisor on "The Bodyguard," forcing it into the movie when another intended song didn't work out.

Waterworld and The Postman weren't enough, now I have another reason to kill Kevin Costner? He's lucky he was in Silverado and The Untouchables or I'd be on a plane right now.

If you had to go around killing directors for every horrible movie ever made you wouldn't have enough time to masturbate.

hadn't heard Houstons name in near a decade, nobody cared... now suddenly everyone is tripping all over themselves to pretend they care... that her career wasn't on laggy end of decline for years...

if you are a "true fan"... fine... go with god...and your weird ass tastes... but for everyone else...STFU...no one really cares, its not "tragic"...it's by the numbers predictable.

The Whitney Houston cover of that is pure unlistenable shiat. She stomped all the feeling and soul out of the song and replaced it with volume and histrionics." AND IIIIIIEEEIIIIIEEEIIIII...WILL ALWAYS...LOVE YOUUUUUU!!". Gah. Makes me reach for an Advil every damn time.

#13. It was a boring song while she was alive. Her being dead doesn't change that.

Stratohead: hadn't heard Houstons name in near a decade, nobody cared... now suddenly everyone is tripping all over themselves to pretend they care... that her career wasn't on laggy end of decline for years...

That's how the entertainment industry works (and by proxy, the audience). To not really give a shiat until it's too late, and then do a last ditch cash in.

Six years after she'd first had a country hit with the song in '74, Parton re-recorded it to add some seriousness to the otherwise levity-filled score of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas

Texas has a whorehouse in it?

/Lord have mercy on our souls

Thanks to The Bodyguard soundtrack, Nick Lowe gets a good chunk of change for the "Peace, Love and Understanding" cover on it, so don't hate too much.

There was a drum-and-bass track that did such an obviously bad job of sampling Whitney's cover that it was absolutely hysterical, especially when combined with that darkside bass...

/you couldn't dance to it, you were too busy laughing!

1 thing I did know: The song sucks ass. If you looked up "overplayed shiat" in the dictionary, there would be a picture of this awful song.

I still get a mental picture of Dolly Parton with a manical evil laugh at the thought of how much money she is making of that song right now and swimming around in cash like Scrooge McDuck.

1) the song sucks, no matter who sings it - and *I'm* actually a song writer and yes, I have material on the radio.
2) Whiney crackho's rendition of anything is not singing. It's vocal gymnastics. And given her lack of talent it's gymnasty.

2012-02-15 02:39:42 PM
To me it's the ultimate song that you can only hear once. Regardless of what you think of the song, you at least have to respect the pipes when you hear it the first time. But after repeated listens it gets pretty annoying.

This song is up there with that Titanic song as being some of the most awful, overplayed dreck.

That awful Robin Hood Prince of Thieves song, too.

Agree. She took all the soul and feeling out of the song and just gave us a demo of the crazy things she can do with her vocal chords.

Actually, this was 1970 - Darin had three more years to live. However, he had heart surgery just before this.

Watch this one filmed just before he died. You can see him struggling for oxygen all through it. Link
