I can buy a package of gum with twelve sticks or more in the checkout line at the corner market for around a dollar, which lasts for several days -- or get a gumball (or maybe a half-handful of chiclets) from the machine by the door for a quarter -- which lasts a few minutes, at best, before it's a tasteless mass.

/yeah; sorry, gumball machine

yeah, blame the health focused consumer. Im sure it has NOTHING to do with needing more than one quarter to buy a crappy gumball out of the machine.

Gum peddler, heal thyself!

/ When did a sticker start costing parents 3 quarters at walmart?
// No kids, lots of quarters.

I used to chew Doublemint religiously but made the switch to sugar-free Stride a year ago after my first root canal. True story.

What I thought. I never get gumballs anymore because they're doing good if the flavor lasts 5 minutes.

That's what happens when they try to use their product as legal tender...

gum just a few short years ago was 25 cents a pack. Now its close to $2.00. wonder why sales are slumping......

That and I use my card a lot so I don't usually have change to throw in a machine.

With cigarettes being so expensive and gum increasing in price, unemployed teens have to go with what is more addictive.

Also, I am the only person I know over 20 who still chews gum.

All I know is that they stopped selling the 5 bubblegum flavor and that pisses me off.

The dish here at work at teh front desk has many choices of gum in it. I usually stick with the mint or pepermint. Now and then I will go for the double bubble.

I want to know why they stopped making Sugarless Peppermint Bubble Yum. It was brain-meltingly sweet and you could get a decent size bubble out of it.

Quench gum(rebranded or ripoff, I dunno) is still sold at SportChalet

Whatever happened to that gum that was being developed using a sweetner that the bad mouth bacteria couldn't eat (so it retarded the growth of plaque).

Did they find out it caused cancer or something?

Two big problems I see in the gum ball industry that really need to be fixed before they recapture success:

1) Price. 25 cents doesn't seem like much initially, but it's still a bad deal for a single serving given what you can buy a pack of gum for.

2) Image. Gumball industry has a serious marketing problem. They've spent too long selling sugary, tasteless gum that no one really liked. I see they've tried sugarless, tried more flavorful gum... that's nice and all, but I had no idea. I see a gumball machine, I automatically assume certain things. They need to change this to revive the industry.

Besides the taste disappearing in moments..

a) The machines gumballs are likely filthy. How many kids do you see putting their snotty fingers over the chute? The store doesn't clean it, and the "owner" sure as shiat doesn't. Empty coins; refill junk.
b) How long has that gum been stuck in the machine? Why is it always rock solid? That's not gum; it's a failed jaw breaker.
