Fark Party
Host: Unfreakable
Description: World Fark Party II - Las Vegas Nevada: March 30 - Apr 1
Date/Time: March 30, 2012 - 06:00 PM (local time)
Party Info: This is the second annual World Fark Party in Las Vegas Nevada. The event will include Drew and many of the Fark staff as well as Farkers from all over the United States and possibly the world.

Thursday (3/29) night will be a pre-event Pub Crawl on the Vegas strip starting at 6PM and will go as follows:
- Treasure Island: Breeze Bar
- Mirage: Rhumbar
- Caesars: La Salsa
- Paris: the sports bar in the back
- Treasure Island: Breeze Bar
Watch the Twitter hashtag #farklv2012 for updates.

Friday night (3/30) will be the main event in the Treasure Island ballroom from 6PM - 10PM. This includes all entertainment and a catered dinner, which will be a fully staffed buffet with several stations serving caesar salad, baby mozzarella and tomato salad, antipasto salad with roasted peppers, artichokes and grilled asparagus, cheese tortellini, tomato cream sauce and spinach, parmesan style stuffed chicken, Italian sausage with peppers and onions, garlic bread, parmesan breadsticks and focaccia, hearth baked breads, assorted biscotti, cannoli, Italian rum cakes and tiramisu, fresh brewed coffee, decaffeinated coffee, iced and international hot teas.

The cost for Friday night is $75 in advance or $100 at the door. The link for registration is here: Vegas Fark Party 2012. Space is limited, and the link will close as soon as we hit the maximum. A PARTIAL list of guests this year include:
- Burnie Burns (Red vs. Blue)
- Mike "Nug" Nahrgang, an actor and comedian that you probably know better as "Mustard Man"
- Mike Phirman (Hard 'n Phirm)
- and the finale will be the music of Paul and Storm.

After the Friday night event, there'll be karaoke at Imperial Palace

There will be a poker tournament on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 pm in the Treasure Island poker room, and several informal events on Saturday evening, including a pub quiz challenge in the evening (location TBD).

Both Friday and Saturday during the day from 10am - 5pm, we'll have a cabana Farkabana poolside at Treasure Island. It includes fruit plate along with water and soft drinks, seating for up to 10 people, LCD TV, refrigerator, ceiling fans, deluxe lounge chairs, day beds and cabana Farkabana host. It should be fairly easy to spot the Fark group.

We have a rate of $139 per night (flat, no Resort Fee) at Treasure Island. To join us there, make your reservation: 888-503-8999 between the hours of 8:00AM to 7:00PM Pacific Time. Group code is FARK12. Hotel registration deadline is March 6th to guarantee that rate. You can also click this link to make reservations directly: Treasure Island Reservations - Fark

frickinsweet: proofreader position

Would you consider an application from a hardcore grammar Nazi?

2012-03-26 01:14:05 PM

frickinsweet: I have 9 new applicants for my proofreader position and only one of them is marginally acceptable.

That's a shame, it's the stuff inside the margins that usually needs the most proofreading attention.

Also, I've never done it in the proofreader position before, does it hurt? I assume it has something to do with an extra period and someone's colon.

/And I'm spent

We are beginning to meet at Treasure Island's Breeze bar around 6pm. We will not be leaving for an extended period of time, once Jason (aphexcoil) feels there's a majority of the crowd there. Location will be announced via twitter with hash tag #farklv2012 and another one...#farkbarcrawl maybe? I'm helping to keep order and herd the troops, so I know I will be updating to #farklv2012

Look no further than another Nevada town some hours to the north: Reno.

I decided it wasn't worth driving, given that my Southwest ticket was like $200.

Wow! That is pretty awesome :) Except I'd still like to have mobility :/ Maybe stop and get some rock climbing somewhere.

Long's I can mobile myself from my room to the Breeze Bar and back, I'm good.

Where in Utah are you?

Been a casual reader for years, never got involved in posting, but pretty much know all of you better than some of my family, which is pretty scary to think so. Leaving for Vegas tomorrow, and will be around during the party, may even get the balls to attend, but will most likely chicken out.

Yeah, mostly I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to get a jab in at Reno.

I'm sure there are much more boring places. Reno at least has gambling and proximity to cool places.

It's low-key and fun. The event will entertain you, and hanging out at the Breeze Bar was a good bet.

Haha.

Also, for clarification, by "washing my car" I mean "paying the car wash $15 to wash my car for me since I have neither a driveway nor a hose to wash it with myself." I'm not even sure why I'm washing it. It's just going to get covered in sixty gazillion bugs on the drive to Vegas anyway.

FAST PACED LIFE YO

Nah, Laughlin has you beat. Imagine Vegas in the 70's, but only blue-hairs go, and there's like six decent sized casinos on a single drag and that's it.

At least Laughlin has the river.

It's certainly not my vacation of choice since I'm not eighty years old, but it doesn't inspire in me the vicious loathing that Reno does.

In high school I played in a golf tournament every year in Laughlin (Well, Needles). Place is a draaag.

Oh man. I thought this year was going to be like last year with the event on Saturday and a bar thing on Friday. The earliest I could make the Friday event would be around 8. And I ain't paying one hundred ducats for two hours of event. Hope plenty of you stick around for the after event.

Still aiming for the pub crawl, though.
