The pot calling the kettle black, er, White.

2012-02-14 01:57:16 PM
Because he convinced idiots to pay billions of dollars to air the footage of your fat ass running around a field playing a GAME.

Roddy isn't exactly known for his Twitter "control".

Goodell should fine White $500,000, match that fine out of pocket to charity, then say that they all are very lucky to make what they are able to make.

2012-02-14 02:06:23 PM
I'm pretty sure that Roddy White is talking within the realm of football as in "only players should make this amount of money from football since we are the ones putting the product on the field" not "Fark you people with real jobs."

2012-02-14 02:08:26 PM
In White's defense, Goodell is a terrible commissioner and needs to be replaced immediately. Did anyone catch 60 Minutes' love affair piece about him a few weeks ago? That nearly made me vomit it was so over the top.

Must be nice to be a Senator's son.

Neither can you, Roddy.

I'll give White this; Goddell is in no way the visionary Pete Rozelle was. Nor is he even the saavy businessman that Tagliabue was. He's the owners' pointman, making the safe decisions to hold the NFL's market position. Yes, he's making some waves about international growth and an 18-game schedule, but these were all things that the league leadership has been contemplating for years.

That said, players complaining about the commissioner usually do so from a position of the worst tunnel vision.

That's pretty much it. He inherited the golden goose, all he has to do is avoid killing it.

How in the hell can you pay that money to someone who CAN run, tackle, and catch?

Nice. I'm not defending Goodell, but Roddy White... well, he's not a smart man.

Why would you pay someone that much money if all they could do was tackle or catch a football?

whizbangthedirtfarmer: How in the hell can you pay that money to someone who CAN run, tackle, and catch?

I hope you're not actually this dumb?

Around 80,000 people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars a game to watch them do just that. Not to mention the millions around the world who are willing to pay to watch them do their job on TV. And buy their merchandise. Not to mention a number of other things.

The money exists whether you like it or not. Would you rather the obscenely rich owners pocket all that money so you can feel better about what you do for a living?

Im pretty sure he can run, catch and tackle. He might just not be very good at it.

What he is really good at is convincing TV networks to pay billions of dollars to air a game played by people who just run catch and tackle.

Networks don't have to be convinced to hand over billions of dollars for NFL broadcasting rights. They sell themselves at this point. Goodell is reaping the benefits of the work done by Pete Rozelle and Paul Tagliabue, much like the current players are reaping the benefits of previous generations of players who got them a bigger piece of the pie.

Why should we pay YOU that much money?

Since this a variant of the "labor dispute in NFL/NBA/NHL" threads, I'll just say that however much of a goofball this and other players can be, I'm not paying to watch some decrepit old guy tent his fingers while shuffling about in his money bin. I'm paying to watch the athletes.

The whole "know your place" attitude to players who are the ones manufacturing the product strikes me as a little weird.

How the hell you gonna pay a man millions of dollars who can't add/subtract/spell, run a business. create a lasting piece of art, develop software/hardware. create new fashion, write a great film or contribute anything to society except catching a ball a handful of times per week?

The same way colleges give that same man a full ride. But, remember, a college is expensive because it's so valuable.

In other news, Roddy White fails to comprehend the difference between apples and oranges.

2012-02-14 02:58:25 PM
Roddy white doesn't get it. He catches at MOST 10 passes a week in a game. Over 16 games (make it 17, the falcons did make a playoff run) Roddy white made 100 catches with 8 TD's. Roddy White made SIX MILLION Dollars for his 100 catches and 8 touch downs.

He does NOTHING in his life accept catch a few footballs and makes MILLIONS of dollars. You know there are nurses out there who save more than 100 lives a year and they don't make six million dollars for it. We got soldiers putting their lives on the line not making six million dollars for it. There are countless people contributing to life over all with inventions and with businesses and with volunteerism and services that never sniff six million dollars. Roddy White, just shut up. Seriously. Your comments are ridiculous coming from you.

rkiller1: The pot calling the kettle black, er, White.

He can run, no question. For like two, maybe three seasons in his career he's been able to catch. It's not his job to tackle usually...but he kind of does it anyway. Unfortunately.

2012-02-14 03:02:10 PM
Coming from the league leader in dropped passes, that is rich. On a variety of topics, Droppy White should learn to stop tweeting and shut up.

I'm not normally the kind of guy that criticizes workers or athletes. But this, "Roger Goodell is getting over never seen anything like it 20 million for looking over the league with tremendous help I guess the NFL is banking." is worthy of nothing but my wrath.

/punctuation, motherfarker, do you use it?!

Hey, Roddy, the guy running the ten billion dollar industry that employs tens of thousands of people and peripherally provides the livelihoods for tens of thousands more is probably going to make a lot of money.

He's still wrong though, or at least ignorant.

Players don't put the product on the field, players are the product on the field. Without the owners, the commissioner and all the infrastructure that is the league, the teams, the Stadiums, etc - there is no field to put the product on, and Roddy White is humping boxes for UPS.

Why does [Movie Star?] "only" make $20mil in a movie that grosses over $500mil internationally? Because without [Movie] there is nothing to Star in. Why doesn't [Movie Star] biatch about Brad Grey making $15million per year when he can't act? Because they're not Retarded like Roddy White.

I didn't see you acknowledge that in your original comment, but that's neither here nor there.

Either way, if doctors, teachers, firemen, etc deserved to make multi-millions of dollars per year, they'd make it. But they don't, because there are tons of them. They might do a great service to society, but they aren't that special. Just imagine how much school would cost if each teacher made a six-figure salary.

We pay a lot for entertainment because only a handful of people around the world are capable of providing the entertainment we like. You can call it "farked up priorities" all you want. Entertainment is very important to any society, and in the first world, it just happens to be expensive because we like the best of the best.

I don't see a problem with any of this. Supply and demand is a very simple concept.

Yeah, no matter what roddy thinks the players do not make the league, it has been here before him and will be here long after he is gone, oh and roddy should thank god for being so lucky, its the highest paying job he will ever have without having to work 14-16 hour days while working your way up the corporate ladder for 10-15 years.

Running a billion dollar corporation is even rarer than being an NFL player roddy.

It's still an ignorant comment. Your product wouldn't be reaching hundreds of millions of households, have massive endorsement deals, nor be treated well in great facilities or playing in massive architectural masterpiece stadiums without the intelligent, organized, ambitious, and aggressive businesspeople driving it from every marketing and financial angle.

Catching a ball doesn't make you worth $10M per year. Catching a ball on TV, watched by millions, highlighted by Sportscenter three times an hour to an audience of millions, in front of 70,000 people in the stadium who paid $100 to be there, while selling $200 jerseys and $150 shoes makes you worth $10M per year. Those things don't happen just because you're awesome. They happen because there is a network of business geniuses backing it up and making sure that perfect catch makes the maximum impact.

Sadly, for a large percentage of people, it isn't. I've used your exact example (The players/movie stars/artists) get paid so much because very few people on earth are capable of doing what they do. The supply of that level of talent is low, so it tends to fetch a high price on a (relatively) open market.

They usually fire back with "Bbbbut they don't DESERVE it!"

Hey Roddy, did it ever occur to you that some people use their brain instead of their athletic abilities to make a living? And also, guess what? When you can use your mind to make a living, you can continue working past the age of 32! Enjoy your money while you can from occasionally catching balls; I'd guess within 5 years of leaving the league you will be broke from a combination of child support, luxury lifestyle spending, and handing out money to sycophants and shady "investment managers".

How are any of these any different than football? The players earn their money. After all if I could convince 5 million people to watch me code every sunday, I'd be making millions too?

You assumption that sports are some how less valuable is invalid. The fact that this many people tunes in, says so.

In the grand scheme of things it is less valuable, and the difference is that roddy should feel lucky to even be able to make this easy of a living instead of having to get up at 5-6am for the first 15 years of your working life only to be rewarded with getting to sleep in until 7am and having to work until 9pm.

As much of a sports fan as I am, all the supply-and-demandsters saying it's cool that we let enable alleged adults to live like royalty for playing a children's game makes me kinda look forward to when this society is conquered.

Well, it's a little strong to say I look forward to it, but when the ant lords take over, I'll look at a photo of Alex Rodriguez and say to myself, "Eh, we had it coming."

In your grand scheme. In mine, I prefer the distraction they provide to a piece of art, new fasion, or great film. Also, you have no clue how hard these guys work and what long hours they put in. To be in the top 1% of your profession, of any profession, means you've earned. Quit acting as if all they do is sit on thier asses playing xbox until Sunday. You try working 80+ hours a week from the time you are 12 risking your ability to wlka, talk, and think clearly.

You apparently live in a world where NFL players only work on Sundays and don't put in very long days at the team training facilities. I'm not saying they don't have it good, but don't assume they don't also work hard. There are a hell of a lot more athletes awake at 6am than you might think, and not because they're STILL awake.
