Wow. A Wharton reference in a headline, no less. I'm impressed.

However, that book was pretty farking depressing. Maybe it was Great Littrachur, I wasn't taken with it.

City Response : No sledding at all on city owned property.

People: Awwwww

Kids: Screw that, we're going anyway...

*OUCH*

City: Wasn't our fault, the signs say you can't sled here.

Scumbag Lawyer: Ah! But you didn't enforce it! We win! Gimme money!

City: Directs officers to write tickets and enforce sledding ban.

Community : Awwwww

Farkers: Don't cops have anything better to do than write tickets for kids sledding - you know, going outside and exercizing.

chard: That book sucks donkey nuts.

THIS.

Edith Wharton's husband suffered from incurable depression. It's not a coincidence.

At least it was short. There were many other shiatty books we had to read in school that were biblical in proportion compared to the measly sub 200 pages of Ethan Frome

The bill would have simply added "sledding" to a list of exceptions for tort liability for municipalities. This list already includes skateboarding and bicycling.

The Democrats, supported by the personal injury lawyer lobbyists, uniformly voted against the bill. As a result, the bill died in Committee and municipalities may now start closing sledding hills to avoid lawsuits. Thanks Democrats for protecting lawyers. Because if there is any class of people that needs protection, it's personal injury attorneys.

What Fizpez said.

It's been warm this winter. Normally we would be in the middle of the two weeks per year city lawyers allow people to skate. Some years the city leaves up the "danger no skating" signs all year but also plows the snow away in mid-February so people can skate illegally. Cover your ass bureaucracy.

A measly 200 pages of pure hell. Adultery has never been so mind-numbingly dull.

I feel like this problem was solved back in 1889 with the advent of steerable sled.

Idiots who choose to use technology predating the industrial revolution (like a non-steerable sled) deserve to be Darwined.

I had repressed all memories of reading that book. Now I'm suicidal, thanks.

I had to google that because my brain had blocked out the mind numbing I received reading it in high school. Once I read the name Zeena I had PTSD flashbacks. Still better than the Scarlet Letter.
