So, you can do whatever you want to another human being if they're in the country illegally? I didn't know that! That explains so much!

Sickening.

A cop actually did 10 years for police brutality? Is she like the Cop Jesus, who took one punishment so that every other cop can be forgiven for whatever they do?

Everyone knows that poor people, illegal immigrants, and gays are unAmerican and therefore subhumans. They deserve to be treated as such.

Here in Philly, when a cop loses control of his K-9, we call that "Wednesday".

yeah, maybe think about your actions a little more next time, douchebag cop

So a cop got badly burned by mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines. Let's take a moment to reflect on this, and perhaps we will learn something valuable...

Snopes has a more detailed account of this former officer and her record. Bear in mind, she was a P.G. County cop.

Congratulations young Mrs. Officer, you took the fall for decades of shiatty PG county officers doing all kinds of despicable things because it was an easy conviction. Bonus points for getting to be on the receiving end of mandatory sentencing.

/Low ranking fall guys aren't just for the military anymore

This was more the "making the new, female, officer take the fall because the good ole boys protected all of the actually dirty cops on the force, and damnit, we had to find something!"

"The man who was bitten by the police dog did testify at trial, but was later deported..."

Reading is hard.

It looks like that article left out some details, like the fact that officers filed a complaint against her.

I read this for a bit wondering why it was a big deal.

"In this case, you had a situation where two homeless Hispanic1 men were surrounded by police officers, who in a willful and wanton way, decided to attack them," he says.
Dettelbach says the bite on the man's calf caused significant damage and that numerous witnesses said he did not resist2..."

1) Double Whammy of social concern.
2) Running is resisting, a-holes.

Was just reading the Snopes article. Seems she has been accused of using the canine in an unlawfully manner 4 times prior, with 3 times the result being an out-of-court settlement.

She gets no tears from me.

came here to say this.

that they had enough evidence to convict is one thing.
that she got 10 years for it is something else completely, and complete BS.

The article states the man who was bitten was deported and it's not clear to me (he was later deported the article states) if he was allowed to stay until the trial or if he was deported and came back for the trial.

Now, I might need another cup of coffee, but the timeline must have a typo.

1995: incident.
1995: charged by the feds.
2001: first trial...then...second trial convicted.
2001: released to a halfway house???

Baltimore and PG county have the worst police in Maryland...but then both Baltimore and PG county are shiat holes.

Link (new window)

Yeah, she's slime.

From the Snopes article: "What is not disputed in news accounts is that both men were down off the roof and had their hands pressed against the wall when a police dog was set on them."

And it looks like these guys weren't burglars either, they were just homeless. The dog did significant damage to the guy's leg, probably the only reason no complaint was filed was that he was undocumented.

Oh, and even if the guy was running away, releasing the dog on him was a use-of-force policy violation.

So yeah, 10 years is pretty harsh, but she's a dangerous violent criminal, and it's not a bad thing to get her off the streets.

If we would only train human police to bite citizens, then I could produce Vampire Cops and Cannibal Cops. Of course, there may be some creepy confessions from some audience members.

They did.

*rim-shot*

This brings me to a question. She states she was ordered to "committ the dog". The dog isn't liable, because he was following orders. Why wasn't her superior office (whom she claims gave the command to her) charged?

That is essentially what the article claims. There were a lot of problems and she was the one used as a scapegoat.

Whether it was deserved or not was up to teh courts to decide and they decided she was guilty.

A dog is a weapon. Using in inapproriately is no different from police using any other weapon inappropriately. All the article say is "she says he was running witnesses say he was not resisting, court agreed with witnesses"

My thoughts exactly. Don't forget, though, this part:

Back in 1995, ... Takoma Park Police set up surveillance and on September 21 of that year, they spotted two suspects on the roof of a building

Then on September 20, 1995, one day before the statue of limitations was set to expire, Mohr was charged with deprivation of civil rights under color of law,

She was charged with the crime one day before it happened!
