what about the Goths?

Some of the suspicious damage includes breaking the exact nozzle on the water heater that would flood the rooms and adjusting wires in the alarm system to shut it off, French said. French said police are looking at disgruntled employees as possible suspects. as well as those with knowledge of the alarm and heating systems.

I'm going to go with disgruntled employees. Possibly union.

It's in an urban area, so I'm going to go with "urban youths".

Most lack the attention to detail and planning, as well as the skill to do this sort of thing. I've just don't get behavior like this. It's a school.
My vote is for disgruntled employee or contractor.

To be fair, if it's a random nerd that is that thorough, they should probably just call it a loss and abandon the investigation, because this is about as well as a nerd with that kind of thoroughness with the angst for that level of destruction was ever going to turn out.

This is the regular thread version of lootie, right? I wish it would die, because the same ridiculous haired guy photo gets posted generally around 5-6 times in any thread that has any question left unanswered, as much a 'lootie' appears whenever the 'O' contains any water, or something the colour of Heineken, or has anyone carrying a box, or the contest lands on a day of the week. And especially at weekends.

Some things just need to die. You are never cool witty or clever, simply by regurgitating what everyone else has already posted to death for the past year.

It is far more acceptable to mash up old cliche to form a new funny-just-the-once bastard child:

/i'm not saying aliens should kill lootie, but I do want him dead.

if this were a TV show, you'd find out it was the head of administration, cashing in on the insurance money, to make the whole auditorium that much better.

That's a pretty fancy elementary school to have an auditorium like that. We got by on our cafeaudonasium.

Before I RTFA I was going to say it's a combination of cop math and repairing infrastructure shortcomings. However it sounds like they were thorough enough to warrant full replacement value.

/didn't really rtfa.

"It's an urban area and the kids really need to know that we're investing in their future and their education"

Sounds like a perfect opportunity to teach some children some work ethics since they're from a location where nobody has any such thing. With all that damage, you could teach these lazy inner city brats janitorial skills, construction, and electrical wiring.

Repeal the child labor laws! It's time to party like it's 1899!

I don't think it's a disgruntled contractor, I think they're just looking for more work in this economy. So it's a gruntled contractor.

this is Richmond- I refused to stay there and work after 3 in the afternoon 'cos that's when
the crackas start coming out. one time all the appliances were stolen from a downstairs
apartment. they wound up being...upstairs. yes.two fridges, two stoves. and a neat .45 bullet hole
through the walls and ceiling. Richmond doesn't deserve any better.

Trashing your high school as a senior prank is one thing, trashing an elementary school just because you can is douche-tastic.

I'm not necessarily sure about the union part (though there's enough evidence of coordination here that it can't be completely ruled out yet), but I'm with you on the employees thing. The actual damage done is way too focused: this was done by someone who knew exactly what to hit for maximum damage with minimum effort, not a fifth-grader.

Furthermore, it hit multiple systems that would have required specialized knowledge in a number of wildly different fields: plumbing and electronics can be inferred from what's publicly known, and there are likely other fields involved than these. If only one system had been damaged, that could be chalked up to a kid and a lucky guess. With this many at once, that becomes implausible.

Either this was a number of employees working together, or someone very high up in the school's staff got access to some kind of maintenance and security audit information.
