To be fair, I've yet to see a proposal that didn't make the proposer look like a farking moron. I think that's, well, kind of a big part of the symbolism.

//"Sacrifice yourself on the altar of dignity", etc.
//Not that I'm any better referencing a generic '90s romcom that no one liked except me.

The 90s called and they want their jokes about how geeks can't get girlfriends back.

But Bender only knows enough binary to ask for the bathroom.

Go satisfy your bend lust and don't you come back until you do

The 90s can't have them back. The writers on Big Bang Theory renewed the copyright.

Usually I think proposals these days are over the top and silly, but this one was just damned annoying. Plus you think he could have cleaned up the pile of dirty laundry in the background first. "Hey baby, will you marry me and come wash my undies?"

Fark converts binary to text? Dang.

2012-02-14 01:52:03 PM
Of course a real nerd would know he couldn't have proposed in binary without any caveats, to be interpreted as text you would need to define or assume an encoding method to go from numbers (whether binary, decimal, hexadecimal, or whatever) to text - ASCII being the most likely. Of course with a lot of extra padding zeroes it could also be Unicode as that replicates ASCII at the bottom of each two byte sequence, but then we would have to know if his girlfriend is Little-Endian or Big-Endian.

/Wow, that was a really long way to go to get to a lame joke that most people won't get

2012-02-14 02:31:24 PM
It doesn't matter. You always TELL her she is little-Endian.

This is probably the most elaborate geek proposal I've heard of yet, and very well done.

But this one is by far my favourite.
