Please just stop with this silly idea...
There's no way it wouldn't suck, even if Bill Murray got involved.
I know there's a lot of money to be made...and Crystal Skull Vodka isn't selling like hotcakes, but please stop whoring your legacy out, Aykroyd. Wasn't Blues Brothers 2000 enough?

I dunno, as much as I love Ghostbusters, I may be in the minority in that I didn't dig the sequel. And Bill's been a sad sack in everything he's been in for the last decade or so, his cameo in Zombieland notwithstanding. Dan Ackroyd heading this up, the last thing I remember him doing was The Blues Brothers 2000. So maybe they should let sleeping dogs lie.

They could bypass Bill Murray by using stock footage and having him dead at the beginning as was rumored awhile back.

You need to get up-to-date.
The only 'Authorized' Blues Bros. cover band just came through town; authorized by whom you might wonder? Why, Dan Aykroyd, of course.
As for Murray what's the deal? First he wasn't gonna do it, then he was and now he's not, again?

The problem with
Ghostbusters
is that it really doesn't lend itself to sequels -- how many times can you tell the same story about them chasing ghosts and saving the world from a really bad ghost? I'm sure Aykroyd's script is a rehash of the first film but will utilize the latest in special effects.

Generally based on anecdotes of fan interaction, a series of truly epic performances (even if they were a while ago), and an apparent great sense of humor about himself.

You obviously don't watch him attention-whoring his way around Pebble Beach every year at the AT&T Pro-Am. Not to say that's bad, I love Murray.
I wouldn't watch Ghostbusters 3 if the premier was in my living room.

Also, Steve Carrell would be a great "Ray".

The only way to make GB3, with fat, old men running around chasing ghosts, is if they *lose*, quite terribly, and not at the beginning of the movie, but in the third act and they become what they have hunted. The best comedies are really dark tragedies. Go to that dark place. *Then* leave your teaser spot of your next-gen ghost-busters, trying to figure out what happened to them.

This is probably where it's all heading. Just fit Seth Rogan for a jumpsuit and proton pack right now and get it over with. Suit up that dry kid from Juno and McLovin would make a great Egon. They'll need a female Ghostbuster of course so get the blonde who's in all those Apatow movies, the one who's pushng 40 but is still cute, no, the other one. There's your cast. Action.

I'm going to lay it out:
People want a Ghostbusters 3 with the cast they remember. To be blunt: About 20-25 years younger. Ghostbusters 2 was good, but the first movie was
fantastic.
If Aykroyd wants to keep milking this thing I have zero problems with him bringing back the cartoon; there's enough lore and room in the GB universe to keep stories coming for decades. But I'd rather keep my childhood memories intact than see them driven over with an SUV like what happened with Die Hard 4 and Indy 4. Both were well-intentioned, ill-conceived sequels to 80s-90s franchises that banked on nostalgia first, dragging actors back into roles they seemed kind of tired of second, and story 3rd.
That last one should be first. If the video game released in 2010-ish was any indication of the story Aykroyd wants to tell in the movie, he really shouldn't. It was barely strong enough to support the game, it would never fly in a movie.

I liked the first one the best too, but they replaced him with HARRISON frickin FORD. And the role of Jack Ryan wasn't specifically written for Alec Baldwin, so there's that.
Who are they gonna get to replace Murray, for whom the part was originally written? Maybe his brother John Murray, from the delightful 1985 comedy Moving Violations? That'd be a treat.

Yeah, the Jack Ryan thing is a pretty bad example. Alec Baldwin played the character competently I guess but he was playing a character. Bill Murray's Venkman is Bill Murray. He's playing himself, or at least his on screen persona at the time. Anyone else playing the character would be doing an impression of Bill Murray and no one wants to see that. Just like no one is going to want to see the upcoming Three Stooges movie where three guys do impressions of the Three Stooges. That just doesn't work.

That being said, who owns the rights to his character as Dr Peter Venkman. I think the lawyers need to be called up, but they could bust his ghost.

Here's how I see it:
Kevin James, playing dual roles.
First as a Ron, a seasoned professional ghostbuster, set to carry the torch for the next generation.
And also done up in a wig and makeup playing his own wife, Ramona, the first female addition to the ghostbuster team!
Will Ron be OK with Ramona muscling in to his workplace? Will the rest of the ghostbusters see past Remona's clumsy start and accept her as part of the team? Can Ron and Ramona save the day...and their marriage??
You won't believe the zany ghostbusting antics!
did I mention they have a family full of precocious kids that move into the fire-station? Ghostbusting is scary stuff for a kid!

No Murray = no Ghostbusters. Period. I love you Dan, even despite every failure you've had since...let's not try to go down that road, becaue it's long, and dark, and probably a lot of icky. But the point is you can't do it. No one is gonna replace Bill Frickin' Murray. Reboot? Maybe. The aforementioned killing-you-all-off as part of a reboot idea? Merited. But don't try and be Ray without Pete. Hell, I don't even think Igon can pull off Igon being as heavy as he is now. Even if you got Bill, I'd still say no. It's not worth ruining the legacy.
