You dare laugh at the jesters of dunk? We came here to terrify and humilliate you, not tickle your funny bones. Watch, as I humilliate your civilization by passing the ball to Curly Joe... only to have it stay in my hand with elastic!

Ladies and gentlemen, something very strange has just occurred in this basketball match between space clowns and atomic monsters.

They always come through here around this time of year, and sure enough they're at MSG this coming Saturday and Nassau Coliseum this Sunday. I've always meant to see them but never have. Now I'm 26, so I feel like I'm too old and can't go until I have a kid. Shrug.

First time I saw them I was 17 and went with a bunch of high school friends. It's a great show. You won't regret it.

Right. Next you're gonna tell me Michael Jordan's from North Carolina rather than Chicago.

You can't have a white guy on the Globetrotters! He's supposed to sign with the Generals so the Globetrotters' point guard can drive to the hoop and go between his legs before dunking.

The Globetrotters were in my neck of the woods this month. I've wanted to see them ever since I was a kid. But...tickets were $24 apiece, there are five of us in my family, and there were apparently no 12-and-under tickets. So, $120 for the whole family.

Aw fark it. I still didn't get to see the Globetrotters.

2012-02-14 01:41:23 AM
The Globetrotters were only named after Harlem because people associated black people with there. They didn't actually play home games in New York until years later when people realized that shiat was racist.

/never seen the GT play
//would like to
///most of my GT knowledge is from Scooby Doo.

Pardon the dumb question but why isn't this guy in the NBA? Even if he is a terrible shooter, having a 7'8" player on the court seems like it would be an advantage. Can't teach height was always a saying my coaches said.

2012-02-14 03:54:27 AM
The great thing about the Globetrotters is that their schtick is timeless.

You KNOW that when they go up to the free throw line that ball is on a string.

You KNOW that the ball will thud onto the floor and won't dribble.

And the age old question: What's in the bucket?

/Brown!

It should, it's a perfectly cromulent line.

Asked how he got his nickname 'Tiny', Sturgess said, "I kind of make people look tiny whenever I step on the court."

Who asks a 7'8 person how they got the name "tiny"?

Fail. 7-8 and playing for globetrotters.

begin csb/

While in college (1982 or so) I was an usher at the coliseum on campus. The night the globetrotters came to town I partied with a number of the Washington Generals. It was also the night I first stuck it in crazy. I remember what was on TV in the background. The first week of this new show on NBC called Late Night with David Letterman.. Damn I am old...oh and never stick it in crazy..

I am foreseeing trotter skits where "tiny" blocks 20 shots in one offensive possession by the generals, and where a trotter sits on his shoulders and catches passes for uncontested layup after layup.

/Saw them once about 35-38 years ago or so

My hometown was too small to make the Globetrotters' circuit when I was a kid. Instead, we were treated to the Harlem Clowns. And you know what? They were damned good!

One thing I remember; their star shooter shooting from the top of the stands at halfcourt and barely missing, then saying "I NEVER miss that shot twice!" They passed him the ball, and he said, "Because I never SHOOT it twice!" Then he threw the ball over his head at the OTHER basket, and swished it.

Here's a vid link: Link (new window)
