Hey, looks like he and my teenaged daughter have something in common. BTW- I'll always remember him as the guy that barfed in the lap of the Japanese prime minister.

Since this is a sock thread, is it too much to ask for it to stray into sexy rainbow brite territory?

He's going to be remembered as the lying traitorous asshat that murdered a couple of thousand innocent, and unarmed boys in the desert, in afghanistan, and buried them alive in hot sand.

I guess he can share it with the guy who ordered US military forces without congressional approval to assist this:

Loucifer: and puking on the Japanese.

Yeah, this is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of GHW Bush. Banning broccoli and puking on the Japanese. That's his legacy.

This is a nice piece of wishful thinking from the Chronicle, but the truth is that Bush the Elder has an uphill battle regarding his public perception. More than likely he'll be regarded as adequate, forgettable, or occasionally regrettable caretaker president of the U...S...A!!!!

Speaking of puking - you covered this thread quite nicely.

is that from the same guys who credit Reagan with winning the vietnam war??

I seem to remember him looking at his watch as the Berlin wall fell and deciding, well, not much for me to do here so just let the chips fall where they may. Also, pardoning a bunch of guys (who would later go on to greater fame) who sold weapons to bad people and had plans to suspend the constitution. Also, advising his shiathead son W, that it would be best if the FBI stopped investigating Saudi financiers who were tied in with militants from a group named al Qaida, best forgotten for the Bush faithfull.. Also, I remember him meeting with a bin Laden on a day in September, I believe it was the 11th, of 2001. Kinda weird that the nation's number one enemy's father is meeting with the father of a president who has done nothing, and does nothing as the attack happened.

So, pink/salmon socks.

farking wondy, let's focus on that for awhile

Fabulous = gay
colored = black

therefore GHWB likes walking on minorities.

Works for me.

You know, I always felt he was underrated as a statesman. I would take one of him today over the entire field of GOP candidates we have now. He was stiff, and patrician, and couldn't manipulate the press at all, but I always got the sense he was a man of honor. I respected him.

2012-02-13 05:42:00 PM
It always amazed me that the elder Bush cannot really remember where he was on November 22, 1963.

2012-02-13 05:44:55 PM
And for his involvement with the Iran-Contra treason.

This. He is definitely my favorite Bush.

GHWB actually served in WWII. I hate war, but I realize that he actually paid his dues in the Pacific theater. This is what I choose to remember.

downstairs: Old people have strange tastes in sock color.

According to the New York Times, it's not old people who are wearing brightly colored socks -- it's a trendy 'secret-handshake' among young tech entrepreneurs that says 'you are part of the in-crowd.'

Bush the elder raised taxes. Shouldn't he be a hero among liberals? Oh, that's right, he had an R by his name, that means we have to revise history to turn him into Hitler and Pol Pot combined.

Critical thinking and/or thinking for yourself is hard!

And History will also remember Bush 43 as the president who made the citizens so mad, they elected a foreign-born black liberation theologist. Of course, in this future Black America, Bush 43 will be respected as an anti-hero, but nobody will understand that.

Why Would I Read the Article: Bush the elder raised taxes. Shouldn't he be a hero among liberals? Oh, that's right, he had an R by his name, that means we have to revise history to turn him into Hitler and Pol Pot combined.

Well, he DID lie in his campaign promises, so that makes him a perfect Republican. I'd still rather have him back in office than his idiot son. Come to think of it, I'd rather have a sock puppet in office than his idiot son.

Why Would I Read the Article: Critical thinking and/or thinking for yourself is hard!

That's probably why you skip it whenever you can, right?

PlatinumDragon: I'll remember him for saying atheists aren't patriots and shouldn't be considered citizens.

I just had to delete and block a cousin last week for saying that about me. She says if you don't believe in "our god" then you don't deserve to use "our money" or hold "our jobs" because it says "in god we trust" on it. Also, she thinks anyone who believes in evolution is an idiot because it's "obvious" someone had to create us. She said someone has to create things like computers and cars, therefore, someone had to create people and the earth.

History will remember George H. W. Bush for his involvement in the Carlyle Group and his war mongering, among other dastardly deeds. Indeed, all the Bushes will be remembered with disdain.

Bukharin: He was head of CIA and was pretty smart about foreign affairs,

True. I mean he was born to a senator so he had the whole legacy thing going but he did actually accomplish some things. Sure, everything was handed to him but it's not he was a complete silver spoon moron like Dubya, who couldn't find oil in Texas and was handed the Presidency only to completely fark up the country. I think as republican Presidents go, he actually had some sense.

He was head of the CIA in 1976. Which were the 'good communists' that year?
