Ellen Degeneres' recent controversy over her partnership with JC Penney is prompting protests from the LGBT community, presumably over one of their own wearing clothes from JC Penney

Yeah, this qualifies as a pretty bad mis-read. "Gay day" was held to boldly show support for JC Penny's decision, not to protest jack squat.

Greg Rothman, who organized the event on Facebook, told HuffPost Gay Voices he
felt particularly inspired when Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly, who is known for having conservative views on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) lifestyles, spoke up in DeGeneres' defense.
"I thought, 'Well, the tide of public opinion must be changing,'" Rothman said.
Sir, I'm sorry to inform you of this but O'Rielly's comments are not neccesarily indicative of a changing tide. You see, he's what you call a douchebag-contrarian. He just likes to be on the other side of what's popular. The kind of guy who roots for Darth Vader when he watches Star Wars...live in DC, but he's a Cowboys fan...he never likes the movies that are Oscar nominated or the songs that are played on the radio. Wait, so some socially conservative organization boycotts JCPenny because they had the NERVE to hire a *gasp* LESBIAN (who just happens to be a very famous and popular comedian/talk show host) as their spokesperson...
The "Gay Community" decides to show their support for JCPenny in their decision as a reaction to this boycott...
And you're accusing the Gays of "whiny bullshiat?"
That's an interesting interpretation.

Also, this. Some uptight moms with a blog got their panties in a knot and demanded that JCP fire Ellen as their spokesperson.
JCP said "Yeah, no. Go away now. We love Ellen."
Ellen went on her show and stated as much, and the LGBT community decided to start shopping at JCP instead of Northern Outfitters/Flannel Iz Us.

Activists on both sides need to get a life. LGBT activists are just as obnoxious as American Family or whatever that group is. What I find distressing is that DeGeneres is a lesbian. How could anyone not fall in love with those eyes? (he said like he would have an ice cube's chance in hell of even talking to her, even if she was hetero.)
What all the anti-gay folks should focus on about DeGeneres is how much good she does for people. I don't have figures but it seems like she gives away more and helps people more than most celebrities. Or is that just a good PR person? I'm not sure about those groups that oppose her, but my faith informs me that I am supposed to support those who help others - as in actually help others, not get the government to help them.

I don't get why the "One Million Moms" group was upset about JCP hiring Ellen as a spokesperson. I mean, she's like the least "offensive" lesbian celebrity around. She doesn't go around actively trying to agitate people or go all super-soapbox with her causes. If JCP had hired Rosie O'Donnell, I'd understand the reaction, but oh well.
I guess it's just like any other "outrage group" (on either the left or right) that has to do something stupid and ill-advised just to advertise their continued existance...

Yeah, how stupid of them, protesting the fact that there are people out there trying to keep them sheltered and oppressed. They should just be quiet and take it, right? Let some crazy vocal douchebag conservatives push around companies to only hire straight, married white people who don't have abortions and love Christ?
The LGBT activists are doing the work they need to do to end this ridiculousness and just finally get them the rights they deserve as humans.

Think about his audience and his expected position. He's no longer a news maker so it would not have made a difference had he come out against Ellen. I'm sure Rush has already taken that position and articulated it. He was mentioned because his unexpected reversal is more news worthy. I think he knows this.

I think you're forgetting that once in a blue moon Billo takes on a position that someone who is not a complete piece of garbage would take (not saying I like him or anything, just saying once in a while he takes a stand for something not evil). I recall there were a handful of times he blasted Bush for how he was conducting the Iraq War (and not necessarily for hawkish reasons as I recall).

I guess I'm more cynical. I always took those rants as a deposit into the bank of sanity and truth. He needed to keep a balance if he were going to maintain the lie that he was a bi-partisan voice who happened to disagree with everything that Democrats did. The majority of his shows are withdrawls of derp that he used to make it rain on Fox news viewers.
