That's gotta be the first drug bust article I've read that didn't attach a street value to it.

I'm guessing around 800 million dollars...

You mean the line in the article that says "The stash is thought to be worth $4 billion."

Yup, it doesn't say anything about that.

Why was such a large amount just sitting there? Just think how many crazy people could be up all night working on their cars like my neighbors do.

AbbeySomeone: Why was such a large amount just sitting there?

Lindsey overslept and hasn't had breakfast yet.

I wonder: How much supply that actually represents. Like, based off the average use amounts, how many meth heads would this stash keep going?

400 users doing a gram a day (which is quite a bit, but probably would kill you) for 30 years. Of course I don't think you could survive 30 straight years of it so lets go with 4000 using a gram a day every day for 3 years. Roughly.

Just 2,000 more pounds, and we'd have had an excellent Tennessee Ernie Ford reference.

That guard looks like he's waiting for the camera crew to leave.

(I would wear a gas mask in that place.)

Some cartel kingpin is gonna be pissed. Heads will roll. Literally.

Remind me again how my not being allowed to buy two boxes of Sudafed in a single day helps fight the drug war.

Um...SIr? Permission to stand outside?......Sir???

They left $4 billion laying around in an empty house in the middle of nowhere? Gosh, we must be winning the drug war! Derrp.

omg THIS. I just got over the martial death flu (ok, actually RSV, but it FELT like the death flu), and I was pissed as hell I couldn't get the good stuff without jumping through hoops during the hours when the pharmacy was open.

I spent the entire ride from the store cursing Walter White.

I liked Guadalhara. Had the most delicious meal there at a place called Los Pollos Hermanos. I wish they'd franchise to the U.S.

Because this keeps people from making their own. Someone had to look out for the Mexican drug cartels.

It doesn't look like very hygenic conditions. I think I will continue to get my meth from Tennessee.

This was unlikely made with sudaphedrin - it's illegal in Mexico.

Most likely, they started with a methylamine precursor. Apparently, you can ship tons of the stuff from China to Mexico, very few questions asked.

Methylamine is a more efficient route to making meth, although you have to deal with a racemic mixture of methamphetamine. The d-methamphetamine gets you high, l-methamphetamine does not.

Why would you keep that much in one place?

2012-02-13 11:50:58 AM
I haven't done any in over three decades and never did much. Those stereotypical behaviors were just too weird for me. Interesting to try as one gets a real sense of the sympathetic nervous system. Could never see doing it all the time like Erdos. That would be just too weird.

//Why is there no meth problem in Ill?
//FIBs can afford cocaine.*

I bet it took a long time to weigh the 15 tons, and even longer to catalog the 14 tons into evidence.

well, with Whitney gone, there is going to be a bit of a glutted market for a while.

So they're essentially making Adderall?

/Also, pseudoephedrine.

Regarding the "Nobody was there and nobody was arrested" .. My guess is whoever WAS there got the tip that they were about to be raided, but were unable to load 15 tons of stuff into whatever vehicles they MIGHT have had there, so they just split and left it behind.

My guess is also, they're all dead by now. "You left it BEHIND?? You're all dead!" or something like that.

Hell, I was guessing this stash was found in SW Florida. North Port and Venice are havens for tweekers with bad teeth.

Jeez, what do you think the cops are going to do with that 14 tons of meth?
