How long until we hear a case when a data cap by AT&T results in someone dying unnecessarily?

//Must bookmark this post. There will be a day when this same situation is a Fark headline.

if that happens it was their own damn fault for sticking with their grandfathered unlimited plan getting throttled, just pay the same for 3gb fast data and pay $10/gb if you need more than that. Never get capped unless you fail to pay your bill.

she were a Sprint T Mobile subscriber

could see the cell tower from driveway-no signal.
I hear AT+T is awful but I've never had any issues with it- even in VT mountains where there aren't any towers to speak of. Odd I know. I will never ditch this phone -

Poor girl. She's lost her family in this tragedy, yet has survived miraculously.

Maybe if she had AT&T, her family would've received the avalanche warnings a few seconds earlier.

*sad face*

"No bigger tragedy has ever struck this region," said local district official Behar Ramadani. "Two brothers with their wives and children have been killed."

Several thousand ethnically cleansed civilians are not getting a kick from this reply...

I've got AT&T currently, and I get about 2 bars in at my house if I'm lucky when on an external tower (I have one of the Micro-cells free from AT&T so then I get 5 bars in the house). I've had friends who've bragged about their cell service (Verizon, Sprint, MetroPCS, you name it) and say they can get 5 bars anywhere so I should switch to theirs.

When they come over though, they get frustrated when they also get maybe 1 - 2 bars and start making up excuses.
"Must be some cloud interference."
"Sunspot activity"
"Your house blocks the signal."

It's fun to watch them squirm until I tell them that the HOA in this neighborhood has sucessfully managed to block building of any cell towers in this immediate area. If you go 1/2 mile in any direction from this development, you get full bars. Get into our neighborhood however, and your service goes to crap. All of them. Then the neighbors biatch about their crappy cell service. I tell them "maybe you shouldn't have lobbied to block building towers nearby then. What did you think your service runs on, unicorns and fairy dust?"

/Homeowners Associations suck

We use that on our ambulance to communicate with corporate when we get a call. Never had any problems out of it, and the PTT works in areas I can't even get a signal on my iphone.

There's something to be said about old technology in certain areas.

AT&T is the NFL of mobile providers.
Verizon is the NBA

Sprint is the WNBA

Sprint is the offical NFL service provider...so....they go that going for them....which is nice.

Also, Sprint doesn't opperate outside of the US, so yes...if they used Sprint they would still be covered.

By the avaliance, not Sprint service.

I've never had a problem with Sprint service. Verizon on the other hand, I can't get a call unless if I'm standing in the front yard. I can get an AT&T signal, but the call will drop before I'm three sentences into the conversation.

Oh, and I would never, ever give a five-year-old a cell phone. The radiation is dangerous to adults, no less a five-year-old. But I guess her parents must have been prescient....

2012-02-13 07:47:59 AM
My youngest will be using this as a reason why she NEEDS a CELL PHONE.

"See?? It could save my LIFE some day! Do you guys WANT me to die in an avalanche??"

2012-02-13 07:51:04 AM
I've used sprint, T mobile, ATT and Verizon. I still prefer Sprint. The coverage wasnt quite as good as Verizon but the support was fantastic. Had to switch to Verizon when I moved to house that did not have good sprint coverage.

2012-02-13 08:19:53 AM
It she were a Sprinter, couldn't she have just outrun the avalanche?

2012-02-13 08:32:09 AM
Funny, after a dozen years with Sprint, my company made me switch to Verizon about a year ago. I travel a lot. And after a year of experience, I can say with confidence that my Sprint service was better than my Verizon service is now. Oh, and my wife still has Sprint. Nothing better than being in the same place where I have 1 bar and no 3G and she has full bars and 3G.

2012-02-13 08:39:46 AM
No problem here in CT with Sprint. It's AT&T that blows. And of course...no avalanches either.

I was on a mountain in Colorado, middle of no where and had 4 bars on AT&T.
Downtown Chicago, and much of the burbs, not so much.

Was about to say, "Subby misspelled AT&T."

A major corporation moved their HQ to a few miles from my house, and AT&T adjusted all of their area antennas to point to them. Now I have no signal inside my house. Fark AT&T.

I can't get shiat for reception along I70 through the Rockies on AT&T(except in pop centers like Evergreen, Vail, Eagle, etc). I get great Sprint(or Verizon roaming, same thing on Sprint) reception all along the corridor

i don't think my kids know how to talk on their cell phones. they can text out the wazzu but actually talk to someone...that seems to be beyond most kids abilities.

we have att in south florida. i haven't had a signal problem here at all. when i visit my parents in northern virginia...yeah...not so good. i was dropping calls left and right in the sterling/herndon/ashburn area.

I've been a satisfied Sprint customer for 12 years. For me, coverage hasn't been an issue at least in the last 5 or 6 years.

2012-02-13 02:57:12 PM
Sprint for the past 5 years has been great in my area and getting better all the others I travel to. AT&T I have only heard about it getting worse. Verizon is ok but Customer Service has always sucked.

2012-02-13 03:48:37 PM
Have a friend who worked for Sprint and couldn't get coverage on their home campus. (Seriously - not an exaggeration.)

They're ALL robber barons, especially for what they charge for minutes / texting / all of it.

/Verizon for me, because when I first got the phone I sent it with the traveling kid to a place where only Verizon had any coverage and I'm just too lazy to try to change it now. And yes, I have a Bank of America account, too.

2012-02-13 04:50:02 PM
I was out on the prince william sound one time doing a sailing trip. The only person who had any service was me, with my sprint phone. Had them for 5 years and never had a complaint. yes, I did have some crappy coverage in rural areas, but the customer service was stellar. Now I have US cellular because of a huge employer discount and cannot even connect my phone to my bluetooth enabled laptop, because us cellular says "It is not needed"
