Each insect sculpture can take her up to two weeks to complete and sell for between £75 and £190
Maybe if she used some actual skill and built working machines out of the bugs instead of just gluing gears to them, she might be able to make more than a panhandling bum.

Because the article clearly states she works full time making these.
Anyway, bugs creep me out, but some of those are kind of neat lookin'.

She looks well fed, so I assumed her husband was supporting her. But I suppose she might also have a job, though I don't know who would hire someone who looked like that. Maybe in some storeroom or other non-customer facing job..

The cool thing with Steampunk is making stuff look like it actually works with all the gears and sprockets. This looks like she taxidermy's bugs and glues random gears to them.

Gluing gears on isn't terribly impressive, I'm sad to say. The scorpion and tarantula are both kind of meh.
Now, the dung beetle with the elytra opened to display the hidden gears, on the other hand, is kind of cool.

The dung beetle is a little neat except I think the perspective is hiding the fact the gears are glued onto the abdomen rather than replacing the body. Little more effort with the scorpion could be neat as well. Based on those, think she has the right skills and mind to do this, just needs some notion of machinery.

If she was making sculptures that actually looked like insect/machine hybrids, that would be super cool. Sadly, it appears that she is just gluing gears to things.
Gears are not the point of steam punk! The point is to imagine a world where ingenuity and creativity allowed technology to advance faster than the discovery combustion and electricity.

It's a hobby that she makes a little money back from. That's more than can be said of most hobbies. Have no idea why the Fail would feature her, she seems like the kind of person that they're usually riling up old people about destroying society.
Maybe old folks are like cats, and can be distracted by the shiny?

Heavens, I'm a fan of Ghastly's work, but I still need subtitles explaining Canadian humour to me.
It seems this lady likes bugs. Perhaps a more apt use of her time would be actual entomology. My mom is a bug-lady, but she resists any suggestion that entomology is where she should be. Alas, many people are mixed up and few people do what they need.

Sadly, video games and movies seem to
get
steampunk better than almost any boutique I've ever seen. Individual dudes who make their own stuff are always much, much more awesome than anyone who tries to sell their wares, in my experience. There's probably just not enough steampunks with money to make it a niche worth pursuing for anyone who has genuine artistic skill.

Somewhere deep down in your psyche, you were thinking about the fact that the artist uses that thing for more than just posing on DA. Yes, there. You can imagine it now. Stroking the inner leg of Sally. Feeling her firm teats give way as the artist closes his eyes and imagines Sally to be a real wolf.

Exactly my thoughts. Looked like the tarantula got a bit damaged along the way. Its front nipper things look a bit munted. Not good enough, sorry.
And what the fark did she shove up its ass? Whatevs. It doesn't look half spider, half robot. It looks like a spider with something shoved up its ass.

What gear covered bug crawled up all you Farkers' collective ass? Those things look cool as hell, and if you don't like them whatever, is it really necessary to verbally attack the artist? Everyone's a critic.

When she finds a very good-looking insect around her home, she'll have her husband place it in the freezer for a quick, humane death before it is immortalised as art.
Just saying that it's quick and humane doesn't make it so.
