There was no debt problem, until the banks who were investing their money lost big in the US, which tanked during the 2008 mortgage fiasco.

Those banks are now hoping to pipe money from Greece to make up their losses. Essentially, blaming Greece for their own bad bets, when in reality, it was largely Greece's money they lost.

A good deal of the populace is aware of the reality of this, and thus you see even middle and upper-middle class Greeks either rioting or supporting the rioters. Greeks who aren't affected by the austerity measures at all, but will be effectively be paying their taxes directly to foreign banks, and won't stand for it.

It isn't about Greek debt. It's about bailing out German banks.

Better tell that to the Democrats in the US Congress:

Oh so you're talking about guaranteed state pensions? No? Okay then, go back in the corner, shill.

It's how the world works though. Not much you can do about it, so far as I can tell. Most of us here live in first world countries, and have to accept that the luxury we're accustom to comes at a price to others. We can't all be economic vampires, however, as some of the leftist would dream - there must be cattle. The fact that Greece has been slotted under cattle, suggests we're really running low on sources of blood.

The 3.7 quadrillion dollar derivatives market might be another good indicator though.

Ya know... This is essentially why world war 2 started - Europe doing, essentially, the same thing to conquered Germany (yes, using bankers who just happened to be Jewish)... I wonder if some Hitler-like figure will rise up in Greece, and blame the Jews, or what not, and turn Greece into a flash-in-the-bucket world war machine.

Little.Alex: Even if they leave the Euro, those cuts are coming because the spending is unsustainable given their economy. No more full pension at 50, or 3 months vacation, or "free" tuition.

If young Greeks want to know who screwed them; they need to talk to Mom & Dad. Borrowing is taking money from the future to spend today. Well; the future has arrived in Greece, and it's time to pay up.

You're a sad little public relations troll. Or a tool.

Spending is not unsustainable given the economy. Spending is unsustainable after bailing out all the banks and their bad loans and investments. Of course there's no more money left over, and bond interest rates are too high because of that, so governments cannot afford to pay the bills they were always able to pay before the economy collapsed.

And who screwed them? You mean it wasn't the banks and their bad loans and investments? You're going to blame "mom and dad?" You greedy selfish farking prick. Go fark yourself you waste of oxygen.

We are Greece in 10 years on Obama's path. That is not biatching, but honest truth when you run the numbers.

Oh, he is bragging about saving 2 trillion over 10 years? Okay, when you will run up 15 trillion more in debt, how is that saving?

"Oh Honey, I only spent $80,000 on the credit card this year instead of $100,000, so I SAVED you money!"

Thanks for the reply I'll have to check those out. And while Germany was stuck with reparation payments at the out break of the financial crises there were other problems as well. I am really wondering though if the EU can stick together or is it going to split in an almost north south line. Hmm, sounds familiar.

Read about the numbers, and it is simple addition after that. Under the most optimistic scenarios, we are still almost a trillion a year under. That adds up. That is a big number, like a thousand or something.

Yes, yes he is. He did not start it, but he is doing nothing to fix it. Ever see Apollo 13? Remember when the guy says they have to shut everything off, now, or they won't have enough power left? That is us. Democrats should not be arguing over 60 billion, we should be cutting 600 billion, right farking now. Instead, he is throwing half a billion dollar bombs at failing pet energy companies and crap. Bah.

By the way, you guys were throwing poop bombs over Bush's meager 500 billion deficit. This is beyond partisan now, we are in real danger. I am sure you understand how interest works and all, right?

How long do you think taxing the rich will prop us up, when more people each year pay nothing in? Right now it is at 50% of all filers paying nothing. Democrats want that number to increase so they get more votes. How goddamn long you think this will work?

2012-02-13 12:25:23 AM

that bosnian sniper: And, now they're being expected to pay through the teeth for the malfeasance of politicians and financial institutions. I'd say they damn well have a right to be pissed.

Gee, maybe they should have paid attention to what their politicians were doing in their names, then.

Goes for all the rest of us, too.

Coming out with a plan to cut 3 trillion dollars from the deficit, raise taxes on the rich, is doing nothing to fix it? What a strange way to look at politics.

WASHINGTON - The soaring national debt has reached a symbolic tipping point: It's now as big as the entire U.S. economy.

Long-term projections suggest the debt will continue to grow faster than the economy, which would have to expand by at least 6% a year to keep pace.

President Obama's 2012 budget shows the debt soaring past $26 trillion a decade from now
. Last summer's deficit reduction deal could reduce that to $24 trillion.

Greece is what, at 130% of GDP for debt? We just passed 100%, and we have nowhere near 6% growth. Do the goddamn math people. That article is from USA Today, a liberal rag no less. Moodys is already warning that the US needs to do some serious stuff or face the same thing as Greece. What is worse, is when the poor liberals here start rioting, they will be more heavily armed.

2012-02-13 12:36:50 AM
And debt is meaningless really, since the government can borrow at less than 1%, paying debt is not a problem. Those European countries are looking at 8-10%+ interest rates. Are you next on the right wing spin machine shift? Every page it's a new tool who comes running in with nonsense.

3 trillion over 10 years. Hmm, we are spending more than a trillion we don't have, per year, but somehow cutting 200-300 billion will make it all better?

Those 25k earners are greedy. They take and take but give nothing back to the country but lots of babies, crime, and Democratic votes. 1 millionaire is better than 100 million poor people paying no taxes.

Oh, and Captain Genius, you realize your Messiah's great plans to punish the rich just assumes the rich will continue to operate as usual, and remain rich? You really don't think a 100% increase in taxes on them will hurt the economy? You think taxing capital gains will help? Hint, states are heavily invested, they get a lot of revenue from evil investments.

Farking dumbass liberals. Once again, the credit card debt example is perfect. Instead of spending 100k a year and not paying it back, Obama will spend 80k a year and not pay it back. Suze Orman would like a word with Obama, Girlfriend.

Government budgets are never about what you have. Deficits are healthy in a strong economy, especially necessary in an economic crisis. Cutting the budget by minimum 3 trillion in 10 years is a great starting point. As opposed to the Republican plan which is.... crickets.

Thunderpipes: Those 25k earners are greedy. They take and take but give nothing back to the country but lots of babies, crime, and Democratic votes. 1 millionaire is better than 100 million poor people paying no taxes.

They do give back. They pay state taxes, payroll taxes, fica taxes, sales taxes. Unfortunately they don't make enough money to have any extra to pay federal taxes. That's what people who make millions a year like you are for.

Thunderpipes: Oh, and Captain Genius, you realize your Messiah's great plans to punish the rich just assumes the rich will continue to operate as usual, and remain rich? You really don't think a 100% increase in taxes on them will hurt the economy? You think taxing capital gains will help? Taxes are not punishment, they are part of making the American dream available to other people. Hoarding money is aristocratic. America is not an aristocracy no matter how much you try to make it.

And no, an increase in capital gains taxes and the top tax rate will help the economy. Clinton did it, Reagan did it.

Dumbass libs,

THIS.

If budget stands to increase $120 billion but that is "cut" to "only" $100 billion, then everyone screams "reduction in spending," along with "severe hardships."

Greece and Amerika are on much the same path: Hire more people than are needed to do the "work," if any, pay them more than they are worth, give everyone lavish benefits but keep taxes low, provide retirees with generous pensions, buy popularity so everyone keeps voting for you---and make up the difference by borrowing tons of money.

Works real well until the bills come due, or China quits lending; what happens then?

Bush was responsible for the deficits, not Obama. Check your math.

And Obama is a racist? Really? Based on what?

Thunderpipes: You people are just so goddamned stupid you can't get basic math. That is sad, because you get to vote.

What basic math? We already covered his deficit reduction plan which is far greater than anything a Republican has offered.

Raising spending to jumpstart the economy is the only possible solution. You don't cut spending in an economic downturn. That's basic math.

Thunderpipes: And since you say Bush started it, remember, Bush was handed a recession by Billy. Man up and admit it, your boy Obama sucks. All he cares about is getting votes. Instead of fixing the economy, he is spending the next year campaigning. He is in VT soon, 38k a plate to meet the turd burglar.

There were no net jobs during the entire Bush administration. So how can you blame Clinton at all? Bush took a small downturn after the tech bust and turned it into a rich power grab leaving the rest of the country behind.

And right, Obama only cares about your votes not the economy. Unlike Republicans who vote down every jobs bill and tell everyone they want the economy to do bad so Obama doesn't get re-elected.

Thunderpipes: Liberal does mean what I say it means. It means you are a dumbass who wants free crap.

No, not banks, not bad investments. It's amazing that something as stupid as you can exist in a World where even bacteria must compete. Do your parents know you're making a fool out of yourself on the Internet?

You're a complete moron. But I'll explain it to you in terms that should be comprehensible even to someone of your limited intelligence.

Politicians are Jelly Fish. They move with the current around them. They do what they are elected to do. Real Leaders, who change the course of events, are very rare. What the Greek Politicians did, was exactly what their voters desired. They gave and gave and gave - and when they had no more money to hand out to beggars and losers -like yourself-, they borrowed more.

If Greece had been spending within their means; there would be no debt crisis, because there would be no mountain of debt. But it was easier for politicians to go along to get along, never confronting a special interest group or saying "No" to someone with their hand out. So now they're broke.

In fact; their troubles are attributable to one, 8 year long spending spree. In the 1980's spending as a percentage of GDP rose by 19 points from 24% in 1980 to 43% in 1988, while revenue rose by only 7 points from 20% to 27%. That's where this mountain of debt came from. They reined in for about 3 years to join the EU, but then went right back to wild overspending and borrowing.

So yes, you monkey farking, shiat eating retard. It's Mom & Dad's fault. Because every election they voted for the politicians who promised to spend the most. The Evil Banks are just trying to get back what they legally loaned to a theoretically responsible and honest entity.

intelligent comment below: muck4doo: No, it's not. I've been paying attention to politics since the eighties, and that is how it works. Go bullshiat some kid who doesn't know any better. Your hyperbole is custom made for them.

I want to spend a quadrillion dollars on education, and social security. My opponent would spend only half that. He wants to cut your education and social security!

Really, it's amazing how many of you simpletons bought into that hook, line, and sinker.

Listen dumbass, I'm not going to teach you history, but go ahead and read

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_government_debt_crisis

While they did hide their spending, they had no problems paying it off until the world financial markets dried up, tourism dried up, and interest rates shot up. If there was no economic crisis, there would have been no Greek crisis.

LOL nice one! I think my IQ levels when I'm asleep are probably higher than yours while awake, former low level bank teller.

Greece had to hide its deficits because all the wealthy and corporations were not paying taxes. And Goldman Sachs used accounting tricks to help them all.

Funny how you don't want to mention any of that. It's all the fault of average citizens. As always. What complete trash.

Little.Alex: Do your parents know you're making a fool out of yourself on the Internet?

LOL if you only knew who my parents are...
