Ok listen. It's tax time and part of my tax toys this year was to buy for myself the Pink Floyd Discovery box set (just arrived) so how I ask you can you possibly expect me to listen objectively to this bullshiate?

Even I think it's too tame.

try this one, it's a bit more upbeat:

I thought that with the animation, it was pretty awesome.

2012-02-12 03:39:34 PM
The animation was great. The music was silly. But I like heavy metal, so I am biased.

2012-02-12 04:14:05 PM
Well ... that sucked.

2012-02-12 04:21:52 PM
I liked it. Reminded me of Moonspell.

2012-02-12 04:29:51 PM
I usually don't take part in metal threads, but that wasn't metal. I kinda liked it, so by definition, not metal. Animation was cool too.

Leader O'Cola: Well ... that sucked.

Hey LOC - do you remember the name of that German band from the early 80s with the female guitarist? (I forgot the name and can't find that thread)

Is it so much to ask that the vocalist be able to sing? Just a little bit? Please?
More freaking gargling, didn't wait like enough to see if he squealed too.

good stuff to listen to -

Charon - Flagellum Horribils (killer black/death)

Sphere - Psalm to the Dark One (death)

Source of Deep Shadows - Fading Desolation (funeral doom)

Ketzer (GER) - The Fever's Tide (excellent black/thrash)

Nachzehrer - Howling At A Winter Moon (black/thrash)

and for something totally different -
Zebulon Pike - Space is the Corpse of Time (trippy, proggy, hard-to-pigeonhole instrumental doom)

and if you're in the mood for cheesy trad metal, look no further -
Huntress - Eight of Swords (new window)

This band sounds like a self parody of their own genre.

They got the SILLY and the STUPID plus PRETENTIOUS turned up to max.

That was... A little out there. Points for originality at the very least.

I like my blackened prog more in the vein of The Atlas Moth (new window - NSFWish cover art) and Cormorant (new window).

If that doesn't work, this most certainly will!

HighZoolander: Zebulon Pike - Space is the Corpse of Time (trippy, proggy, hard-to-pigeonhole instrumental doom)

Zebulon Pike are amazing live. Easily one of the best bands I've ever seen live in fact. If you ever get a chance, go see them.

Tyrant's Too Late to Pray is a great album. Makes the pain of arguing with pedophiles on reddit go away.

Also, I listened to a lot of The Chasm this week. They're awesome as well.

That's cool to hear about Zebulon Pike - I'm not sure you're recommending them as highly as you're recommending Tyrant, but I'd love to see them live.

I'm going to have to rectify my lack of that album.

When I'm in the mood for Cthulhu, this (^) always terrifies me (in a good way).

Not bad. Kinda reminds me of A Minor Forest (new window) for some reason.

Thanks for that.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Taake (new window) (The banjo is a bit out of the ordinary for them)

Good band. I picked up the compilation last year. I'm surprised you don't like Catacombs though.

The banjo is a bit surreal, but not in a bad way.

Ok, I really liked the banjo. Anyone got more banjo metal?

Panopticon. Most prominently on the album Collapse and the It's Later Than You Think split.

'Stone Cold Metal' by Ensiferum has a great banjo solo.

Hey guys, NPR is streaming the new Pallbearer album. You should go listen to it because it is an absolutely amazing album. I'm talking, top ten material. Everything doom metal should be.

Between this and Cormorant's album a few months ago, I don't know why I'm ever still surprised that NPR plays good metal.

/on a side note - I ordered a few CDs from Nuclear War Now! on Saturday, shipped media mail, and they arrived today. Damn that was fast.

as long as I'm plugging them, I might as well point out that many/most CDs are only $5 each, and shipping is cheap (and sometimes extremely fast)

Nice recs, everyone. Thanks.

OP sucked, most of the recs were great, pretty much the usual.

I know I've posted some of these before, but they're good enough that they deserve a repeat.

Timeghoul: Link (new window)

Dr.Shrinker: Link (new window)

Vulcano: Link (new window)

Death Breath: Link (new window)

/Also been checking out some new releases.. New Lamb of God blows, new Meshuggah song is disappointing, new Paradise Lost song is great, and the new Aborted album is pretty damn good.

Woah - oldschool! I'd never heard of Dr Shrinker or Vulcano, but both are good.

/timeghoul compilation is in the mail.
//I like Death Breath too
