Yeah, and if 20th Century Fox hadn't destroyed the Batman sets right after ABC canceled the show, NBC was going to pick it up for a fourth season.

Also, Taxi could have went to HBO for a sixth season, but in the end, the deal didn't happen, and we missed seeing Marilu Henner's naked tits.

I would have rather seen a TV show abour Radar than Joanie Loves Chachi, for sure.

Oh gosh, I remember that. It was actually pretty good at first, unlike a similar show that was far worse: Brothers and Sisters.

Confabulat: Wasn't Radar in AfterM*A*S*H?

IIRC, He made a guest appearance, and that guest appearance gave them the idea to write and film W*A*L*T*E*R

And speaking of other horrible character-based spin-offs that did happen, but shouldn't have...

Part of the problem with "Delta House" is that it 1) Was shown during the "family hour" and 2) The raunchiness/vulgarity/adult humor that was in the movie wasn't permitted on TV back then. It was extremely tame compared to the movie.

I'm getting visions of a sitcom set in a frat house that involved a muscular blonde guy doing pushups on chair backs during the opening song, and his friend the small, weak, brown-haired geek. I think that opening also involved a shaving cream fight. Am I thinking of another show?

Yes, but I'm not sure which show it is.

Although, I don't know if I should call 'em spin-offs, or continuations.

What about Archie's Place. And didn't Rhoda spin off from Mary Tyler Moore? I think both of those did okay for a while, no?

Were there others that came from MTM? Going kinda far back for what's left of my memory.

And Momma's Place came out of Carol Burnett didn't it? Or something...cripes I'm old.

Rhoda came from Mary Tyler Moore. Archie's Place was a continuation of All in the Family, after Jean Stapleton left the show. The Jeffersons was also a spinoff from All in the Family. They had been Archie Bunker's neighbor. But all of these shows were on for a few years. The article is about spinoffs that didn't make it past the pilot episode, like Amazon HIgh (Xena spinoff) and The Greatest American Heroine.

This was a spin-off for L.A.S.

Wiki: Originally spun off from a one-episode teleplay on the anthology series Love, American Style, the series spawned some other hit television shows, Laverne & Shirley, and Mork & Mindy, and two non-hits Joanie Loves Chachi and Blansky's Beauties, featuring Nancy Walker as Howard's cousin.

There were a number of spin-offs considered from The Rockford Files, the one closest to being actually made was with Angel (Stuart Margolin) and Gandolph Fitch (Isaac Hayes), but it never got past preproduction on the pilot. There was a second one that would have featured Gandy and Marcus "Gabby" Hayes (Louis Gossett, Jr.), which never aired as its own show, but was a series epsode.

The Rockford Files did have a short-lived spinoff with Richie Brockelman: Private Eye, with Dennis Dugan.

I remember hearing on the radio once (I think it was Bob & Tom) about somebody releasing a special cd with nothing but the answering machine messages. Probably a gag, but I would have bought it.

"This is Jim Rockford. At the tone, leave your name and message. I'll get back to you."

""It's Norma at the market. It bounced. You want me to tear it up, send it back, or put it with the others?""

"

None of them sound worse than Flo, which actually made it to air. Or Two and A Half Men, whose current season is a spinoff in all but name, for syndication purposes.

Speaking of Magnum, it wouldn't have been a spin-off, but Magnum and Quantum Leap creator Don Bellisario wanted Sam to leap into Magnum at some point, but it never came to be.

...maybe if there had been a 6th season, and Dr. Sam Becket had returned home....

The reasoning I heard for not doing the episode was that an episode of Magnum had been shown on a TV in Quantum Leap. So it was already established as a fictional universe within Quantum Leap. Still would have been awesome, though.
