I work midnight through 7:30 AM and I was working comfortably in an outdoor dock with a thin tee this morning.
I bet we would freeze to death within a few minutes in states with real cold.

Maybe if the
real
temp were below zero, then
maybe
a case could be made for todays cancellation. It's 18 degrees there though. Fourteen degrees warmer and the ice sculptures will start to melt. That's too narrow a temp window to demand of a winter party.
Possibly the most appropriate use of the FAIL tag I have ever seen.
I suggest no future attempts at this festival.

"Winter Fest"?
It's a real shame they cancelled it. Yes, it might be pretty cold out right now; but for it being a "Winter Fest" it's a real bad season for it; as I don't see a lick of snow outside my window.

It's not all that bad, but I can see why a lot of people wouldn't want to linger in it for hours on end.
In related news, one of my bosses (who's from Minnesota originally) complains any time the temperature drops below 70. I told her to move to San Diego or quit whining.

Oh cmon, it's not THAT cold. I remember back in the day we were out to play at lunch hour when it was -35C. We went out snowshoeing and cross country skiing in that kind of weather too. We played hockey on outdoor rinks by the lake with the wind whistling by at 30km/hr and a windchill of -40. Sometimes it even blew snow across the rink, where it stung your eyes and had to be shoveled before you lost your puck in a drift. Everybody wore big work socks on their hands rather than hockey gloves, because you would lose a finger to the cold much more quickly than you would to a swung stick.
Seriously though, that is fairly cool for today's tykes and compared to the rest of this winter, downright frigid. Even for Wisconsin.

I live in NE Wisconsin and this has been the winter of no winter. This is the mildest winter I can rememer. Almost no snow and only a handful of days below zero. I remeber snow banks you couldn't see over and stretches of weeks when the high temperatures never got above zero for the high.
/friend bought a $7,000 snomobile and has put less than 100 miles on it

Grew up in he SE and I remember in the 70's driving down road that almost seemed like tunnels from the snow, in a '64 Imperial with bald tires going to Franksville to get soda and chips, and riding a Ski-Doo in the fields all winter long

I'm in WI, and you can get some cold snaps in early Feb. sure. Last year we had some temps close to -30F here a couple times. This year has been warm though. We are having a cold snap now, but it only went down to 5 here last night, not even below zero, and it is supposed to start warming tomorrow. So if anything, it is warmer than your typical February and I don't see why they had to cancel. There was a pretty strong wind yesterday though.

Yes when it is like this (last winter was mild too) winter usually last longer. Last year I didn't get my garden in till mid June.

I am from Wisconsin and I am confused. It was pretty nice out today, and considering it is usually colder than the teens I am really quite baffled as to cancelling due to cold. I am wondering if some of the stuff they canceled was snow related and the reporter is just dumb.

Oh it's mild for sure, my part of MI too. I'm just skeptical. And if nothing out of the norm happens during winter, I'll be expecting it during summer.

I've never been so cold as when skiing in Northern Wisconsin (Indian Head, BlackJack, etc.). That's a special kind of cold up there.

pfft....farkin pussies....kids go to school in Fairbanks at a real temperature not "wind chill" adjusted temps at -55. They ride the bus, walk, get driven but they go to school. Recess is not cancelled until at least -35. Plus it is pretty much dark most of the time in winter.........Fairbanks Winter ice festival rocks!!!
Must be a slow news day.......I am sure Minnesota fans can chime in also.....windy plus burr arse cold!

Maybe for a car battery. Otherwise,(IOW, for people) there IS a difference between O degrees, no wind and 0 degrees, 25 mph wind.
