Only co-workers voice who I find irksome is the 350# 62 year old lady. McDonalds put cheese on her burgers the other day and everyone that sits around her got the distinct pleasure of listening to her call said McDonalds and scream at them for putting cheese on the burger. I couldn't help but think you don't get to be that fat without loving cheese but whatever. She also leaves for hours at a time for her myriad doctor appointments, all while pretty much doing about 10% of the work anyone else does.

This article doesn't change the fact that is irksome to hear my coworkers talk about their dogs, especially the females who have no kids and think dogs are their children and have publicly stated "when a dog dies, it's like losing a child". Have 3 kids and 2 grandkids and don't talk about them as much as these gals talk about their dogs. Have two dogs myself, both cuter than this one. Want to hear about them? I didn't think so.

What's really irksome is when the dog ends up being more productive than many of the human co-workers in the office.

Once I was with my mom at a Bed, Bath and Beyond when this older couple pulls up behind us with a baby carriage at the register. Curious, because I like babies, I took a peek to see two Bichon frise sitting in the carriage all cuddled up in baby blankets. I say nothing. Eh, it's kooky. But then the husband takes the carriage and says, "I'm taking the
kids
to the car." He goes off leaving the wife behind. The wife turns to my mom and says, "Don't you just love your pets more than your own children?" Mind you, I am standing next to my mom and there's no mistaking, I look like her. No question that I am her daughter. Mom says nothing but gives me a, "This lady is cuckoo is Coco Puffs" look.
If they are like this public. I wonder how they are in private. And I wonder if they have kids how did they treat them.

I have a pet supply/grooming shop and you wouldn't believe how inconsiderate some people are with their pets. The idiots who think their dog doesn't belong on a leash, the people who ignore the fact that their dog is pissing on everything. The ones who think a 20 foot trip wire of a Flexi is a leash but then let their dog wrap around everything. People who bring dogs into public that they know will bite. Letting their dogs smell my baby even tho "this is the first baby he's ever seen, I didn't know how he'd react" People who bring their parvo ridden puppies in to see if we have an herbal remedy for them. Can you tell I've been working 6 days a week for 5 years?
I imagine these types of dramas would ratchet up stress to negate the beneficial aspects of having pets in the office. I mean can you imagine the office drama queen/kings if a pet jumped on them w/ muddy paws and ruined a pair of pants?

Friend of mine is a nurse. She used to work in a dr's office. Said doctor was very involved with the local SPCA community, and politically connected. She had several dogs.
Said dogs were, more days than not, hanging around in the doctors office. Not corralled in a back room...they had the run of the place.
No thanks, lady. If I go to the doctors office and see any animal other than something swimming in a fish tank, I'm leaving.

Jebus Criminey, what the hell is up with all the petty dog-hate in this thread?
If you don't like dogs/cats, that's your choice--but it doesn't speak well of you as a person.
If you feel it necessary to go around
telling
people that you don't like dogs/cats, particularly if you're trying to get a rise out of people (like here), there's something wrong inside your head.
/Of course there are people out there who take their pet affection too far. That doesn't justify or require any vitriol toward the animals themselves.

Here's a tip. If a big dog jumps on you, bring your knee up sharply and knee them in the chest, as hard as you can. Don't hold back, really punch them with it. Couple of good hits and they will figure out not to jump on
you
again.
If it's a little yappy dog that jumps on you, unfortunately, you will have to kick it off.
Dog lovers, if you don't want your animal kneed or kicked, then

The article did state that people are usually pretty good about knowing if their dog would misbehave at their work place. Of course, there are the inconsiderate people who bring their misbehaved dogs anyways.
For the allergy concerned, I've always wondered about this-they biatch about people bringing dogs ANYWHERE, but look at service dogs! I've never seen a service dog that isn't a shedding breed, or one that could cause allergies for some people. And again, of course, that certainly doesn't mean there aren't service dogs who are not as allergy-inducing.

I bring my dog into work sometimes. There are only two other people in the office so we get lonely and he is good company.
He's also always clean and exercised when I bring him in, so unless someone calls him or brings a toy he lays on his bed napping.

This is such a retarded idea. I think I am the only one on my street without a dog. Dogs are animals, not people. I don't want to interact with your dog. I don't want to hear about your dog. I am sick of hearing your dog bark. Stop talking to your dog like it is a child, it's a farking dog. And stop congregating with the other dog worshipers on the corner and cackle about your dogs at farking 6:30 in the goddam morning. And stop pushing local ordinances to allow you to bring your dog into restaurants, shops and now work. I don't want to be near your dog. If I want to enjoy the stink of your animal I will go to your house which now smells like dog. Yes it does, no matter what you think and no matter how you swear you keep your dog and house clean.
Don't even get me started on farking cats.

At a previous job, people brought their dogs to work if they had to work on the weekend. The dogs and people behaved themselves, and nobody had a problem with it. The company was small, though, and we didn't have anybody who was allergic to animals or a histrionic drama queen. That'd never work in my current job; the office has too many people in it.
