4) If you get angry and destroy someones property (even if you gave it to them) then it's okay to force them to reimburse you for your destruction

5) Disrespect should always be returned and escalated.

6) Adults should never take the high road during a dispute with a child.

7) Retaliation against family members and loved ones is cool and funny

8) It's okay to pry into the personal communications of your family members if you possess the skillz to do it.

9) Once you've betrayed the trust of your children you should punish them for their immature thoughts made in private.

Let me get this straight. Some jerk gets his panties in a bind and takes a freaking gun out into the backyard and shoots his teen daughter's computer. Video tapes the event. In the video he verbally berates his adolescent daughter and posts it on the internet for the entire world to see. I point out his profound lack of parenting ability but somehow you think I'm the idiot?

Having spent time in the real world, I vote for good father.

It's not quite the way I would have done it, but no harm was done to anything but the computer. His responses in the emails seems pretty measured and not unreasonable.

I'm a father of two, and parenting is a massive and difficult job. Every situation is different and there are a dozen ways to f*ck it up. While I wouldn't have handled it like that, it's very easy to think about how to deal with a situation perfectly with the benefit of distance and impartiality.

I don't like the way he handled it, but he's handling the resulting firestorm quite nicely.

Personally, I think using a gun shows a level of violence I'm not comfortable with, but that's because I'm not comfortable with guns in general. I also think destroying the laptop was a poor fiscal decision, because she's still going to need to use a computer; and he's eventually going to have to buy a new one.

And for all of you who will IMMEDIATELY respond "...well I didn't have a computer growing up!", try to recognize that this is a different world from when you were a kid, grampa.

Definitely a poor fiscal decision, however he had already threatened to do it. One thing a parent has to do is follow through. I say kudos to him.

Couldn't he have just confiscated it? Or disabled it's internet capability? My cousin punished her son for something similar by making him use an old dell desktop she set up in the living room where everyone could see what he was doing. Bonus- she didn't set up the Ethernet cable.

Well, I'm older but think the whole deal is funny. Good for him.

You get older, you get some money, and guess what? You still don't get everything you want. You have to tell yourself no sometimes. It sucks. That's the growing up part -you stop whining about your parents not giving you stuff because you realize that wasn't really the issue.

And for you youngsters out there: YOU ARE NOT INVISIBLE! You weren't before Facebook either. But now? Some guys track their kid's phones. Impersonate their friends on Facebook. And so on.

My dad knew everything about me (the 70s) when we were not connected to shiat, we weren't friends with our parents, we partied way out in the boonies, etc. And still, he knew stuff. I've learned how that happens and you youngsters will too. Someday.

Hilarious. If there was bad behaviour besides the grunting I would be more apt to do something other than complain. He gets good marks in school, he is home every night right after school, he helps with the dishes and chores when I ask, he doesn't ask for anything when we go out. *shrugs* What else could I ask for him besides conversation? That will come.

She actually asked me to post a comment on one of the threads (and I did) asking what other job fields the victims of laptop-homicide were eligible for because she wasn't too keen on the stripping thing.
