So Jeremy Lin > Tim Tebow?

2012-02-11 12:01:45 AM
I was going to watch the game, but I had to clean my dryer's LINt trap.

2012-02-11 12:02:59 AM
Here's every Lin basket from the game. I just about lost myself on the last two shots, but measuring up Gasol the way he did on the shot at 1:58 was a special kind of awesome. God, that was fun.

FTFA: Thursday night, following the Lakers' win over the Celtics, Kobe Bryant was asked his opinion of Jeremy Lin and the Linsanity epidemic that has swept the Big Apple and nation as a whole.

I'm sorry, the what?!

We build 'em up, build 'em up, build 'em up and then WHAMMO! Smacked in the head by a farking ... thing with which we whack people in the heads.

Nefarious: So Jeremy Lin > Tim Tebow?

In terms of being skilled at their professions? Yes.

EEEE! He's so tiny. Mom, can I keep him?

DamnYankees: Nefarious: So Jeremy Lin > Tim Tebow?

And Lin wasn't even drafted whereas Tebow was a first rounder.

Lin is leading a team not letting his defense do all the work.

Still 4 games, but Linderella looks like he's for real, sheeeeeit.

2012-02-11 02:16:29 AM
After watching Jeremy Lin play, I want to watch more basketball an hour later.

2012-02-11 02:24:34 AM
Lin was forcing it inside a bit too much in the second half, slipping a few times to turn it over. The Knicks are a better team without Melo on the floor.

2012-02-11 02:24:45 AM
Tony Romo > Jeremy Lin
Kyle Oroton > Jeremy Lin
My Gramma > Jeremy Lin

no... nowhere NEAR as much fun as the tebow thing.

2012-02-11 02:28:12 AM
So the Lakers' strategy tonight was obviously to just let Lin shoot his jump shots (and Derek Fisher actually tried a little belly up on Lin; he can't really pull it off, though). Given that this is suicide since Lin's making those jump shots, how do you defend against his pick and roll?

/Lakers were actually lucky the Knicks were farking up a lot of simple finishes and missing more free-throws than usual, this could've been really embarassing for them.

Lin = Tebow with talent

pedobearapproved: Lin = Tebow with talent

Lin = Tebow if Tebow played well before 5:00 4th

Man, the NBA is LOADED with great point guards that are fun to watch.

CP3 and Griffin in LA. Westbrook and Durant in OKC. Rose in Chicago. Williams in NYJ (Not for long though). Rubio and Love in Minnesota. Now Lin in NYK?

Sad in Portland.
Last year we had Andre Miller, Brandon Roy, and Patty Mills. This year we have Raymond Felton, and Blaze the Trail Cat.

Except than Lin was a relative unknown whilst Tebow was getting crammed down our throats every few stories on ESPN.

2012-02-11 02:57:44 AM
Mr. Lin doesn't make a point of letting us see him offer a prayer of gratitude every time he makes a basket, does he?

That's nice.

/if God knows the thoughts of your heart, then why would you have to kneel and gesture, unless it's to impress your fellow mortals?

He is a devout Christian though, and has expressed interest in becoming a youth pastor. So, yeah, a little like Tebow in that respect, but with the volume turned down a bit.

/way more talented than Tebow though

This guy kicks ass.

Great, Can't wait for ESPN to whore out and ruin another breakout player.

Disregarding my cynicism and hatred for ESPN, good for him. Ive been following the story and theres nothing to not like.

2012-02-11 03:24:15 AM
Not original but I can't remember where I saw it:

Comparing Lin to Tebow is unfair to Lin's passing ability.

I don't like professional basketball as a general rule, and sometimes rookies shine and fade, but he looks like he's got his mechanics down; unlike certain Denver Broncos quarterbacks who may or may not be worse at football than some grandparents.

This guy seems to actually be legit.

He's RUNNING AN OFFENSE, as opposed to not losing games.

2012-02-11 05:17:35 AM
Except that even with him playing nobody cares enough to watch him play and make it the highest rated program of the night, this is the first I have heard of him so kobe was probably in the majority of people who hadn't heard about him.

Why do people insist he's got a huge following? This is the first most of us have heard of him and its not enough to make go watch the game. This is espn saying "We made teebow a huge story and got huge ratings so let's do it again with some nba player" the difference is that a majority of the people still like football.

Ha. At the very real hazard of not being on the same page as you, if you're talking about Asian folks loving their new basketball hero, most definitely. Its about time, and well deserved. I'm not a big fan of pro hoops myself (Seattlite.. Fill in the blanks yourself), but I have a whole bunch of friends who have been clogging my Facebook for days over this guy. Having watched the highlights (cable is expensive), I'm inclined to agree. Shall be interesting to see how the 'prevailing wisdom of sports' runs with Lin.

Just another Harvard thug.

I need a Lin #17 Houston Rockets jersey delivered by Thursday. Difficulty: the NBA store won't sell it due to a policy about former players. Suggestions?

The leader in the clubhouse is Lin #11, both since it is close enough to 17 and he was on the Rockets' roster in '11.

Do you know that many people? This guy is going to help the NBA in popularity if he becomes a consistent star, surely you can't be that blind and fail to see why. He is a great story, rags to riches, the American Dream cliche and all that. Also, the NBA needs diversity and basketball is huge in China and among a lot of Asian Americans. I live in the Bay, so my worldview is different but this will be a boost to the league. Too bad the Warriors let him go, a freakin hometown hero playing in an area with such a large Asian population.

I was wondering if that was the same kid from GS. I went to a Kings-Warriors game in Oakland last year--a preseason game I believe--and he had quite a following, even having not done anything noteworthy yet. Of course, like you said, it's the Bay area so there is an Asian population. I didn't realize he was undrafted and from Harvard. It is a nice story. He's done more than Jimmer Fredette has so far, so he's got that going for him. In other news, Derek Fisher needs to retire.

Because he happens to have single-handedly revived the playoff hopes of the until-now-shiatty knicks, who happen to play in new york, the largest city in the country. I'd say 8 million's a pretty huge following.

Yes, because New York is really lacking a big Asian population. Chinese in SF&Oakland: 210,000. Chinese in NYC: 486,000. Link

That, and Tebow has 2 national championships at the highest college level whilst this guy played for Harvard. So that might have something to do with why Tebow was such a big story on ESPN. Are there any other NFL quaterbacks who have had that level of college success.

I watched the game last night. Very cool to watch.

I hope he can have a good second half. There will be an inevitable bad game, but it'd be cool to see him lead the Knicks to the playoffs.

And, yes, he is a devout christian, wants to be a pastor, talks about being like Tebow and....amazingly...people don't hate him because of his faith. I wonder why that is.

Lin's emergence has made the Chandler deal look inspired.
