Slideshow of music so hard to find, you've never heard it. Is this hipster nirvana?

And if there wasn't a typo on every damn page ...

I'm sorry, does "lost" now mean "so damn obscure you've never heard of 90% of these people"?

Really... the Beach Boys "Smile"... that was a "lost album". These are just obscure albums that probably never made it to CD because there was no market for them.

/with the usual exceptions... Zappa, Cohen, Nicks/Buckingham...

Hipster twaddle, complete with the solo album from the frontman of Dexy's Midnight Runners, a hipster staple.

Had any of those albums been noteworthy they would have long been available since the music industry isn't at all shy about exploiting artists for money. That they're not is the single fact you need to know to confirm the ridiculousness of the article. This is a guy who picked 20 albums at random, wrote some 5-minute copy, and blogged it out to meet a deadline when he couldn't think of anything else.

Hipster crap. There are plenty of lost Fall albums that are out of print. THOSE are the real gems.

23. Well anyway, there's one song on there with a theremin that's like wooo-OoO-oooh bump a bumpa plonk.

There is one song from Buckingham/Nicks that was released officially on CD: 'Long Distance Winner' was released on a Stevie Nicks box set back in the late 90s.

Hell, I have the buckingham nicks album if anybody wants it. EIP

It's cool to hear riffs and melodies that ended up being part of "fleetwood Mac" and "rumors."

I could be wrong, but I think Fear was the first John Cale LP I ever bought. Eno and Phil Manzanera play on quite a bit of it as I recall. Interesting mix of songs... quite a range. "Fear is a Man's Best Friend" is completely crazed, but then there are quite lovely numbers like "Buffalo Ballet" and "Ship of Fools." I had no idea it was "lost."

Buckingham Nicks is awesome, but is it really lost? I have it, and so do a lot of my friends.

I got to the 16th or 17th album and hadn't heard of any of them, hadn't even heard of most of the artists, and then BAM two albums in a row that I own. "Death of a Ladies Man" and "Over-Nite Sensation."

I own two of those and have never heard of the rest (well except for Jeff Buckley, John Cale and Frank Zappa, of course).

I say that makes me 1/10th hip. Sweet.

/"I see a Darkness" and "Death of a Ladies Man", in case you were wondering...

Had B/N back in the 70's. It was a pretty good indicator of things to come on "Fleetwood Mac" and "Rumours" - which is still a guilty pleasure to listen to. Stevie was pretty hot back then too.

Have it as well. Enjoyable album.

I never would have picked that Zappa album as lost. It is a must have for Zappa fans.

It does show up one problem with jewel cases. Can you even make out the details of the picture frame when it is that size. It was the source of many adolescent giggles.

Is that Buckingham-Nicks really worth it?

My understanding is George Lucas sued them over the Star Wars-related stuff and the album had to be pulled.

Death's ...For the Whole World to See

Amazing proto-punk riffs. Amazing from start to finish.

Stop reading, go listen!

The Zappa is "twofer" - two albums on one CD, how it was originally released on CD. It's not an "album." And how can either album be considered lost when they are probably his most commercially successful albums? Stupid slideshow with stupid typos and stupid stupidity.

I have one of the few CDs of Buckingham-Nicks in existence. OK, so it's a bootleg but it was ripped from vinyl by a pro sound engineer and re-equalised and de-clicked etc. Sounds stunning now even after 30 years.

I swear I've seen "Fear" on CD, possibly as an import. I've got several early John CD albums and they're all excellent.

And I know I own "Death of A Ladies' Man" on CD; it's a Columbia "Nice Price" album, which means it probably cost me all of $8-10. It's worth it just to hear Leonard Cohen sing "Don't Go Home with your Hard-On"with Allen Ginsberg and Bob Dylan singing backup.

I desperately want to lay my hands on a Buckingham Nicks album. I had one years ago and sold it, figuring I'd pick up the CD. No such luck.

I wonder what Joy Division would have released if Ian hadn't have hung himself. Between Permanent and Substance (1977-1980), there is enough material for at least two more albums.

A few good "lost" (and out of print) albums in my vinyl collection:

Wire Train - "Between Two Words"
Fabulous Poodles - "Think Pink" & "Mirror Stars"
dB's - "The Sound Of Music"
Suburbs - "In Combo"
Spooner - "Every Corner Dance" & "Wildest Dreams"

All great, but the Suburbs album is especially awesome.

so do I, but remember, mp3 isn't hipster enough to count as "real."
