I agree Jon.

If this coont is being honest, why did she advocate for the the ridiculous cover that Komen changed its policy so that no grantee being investigated by anyone, including Cliff Sterne's wholly unsubstantiated claims, could get money. Wouldn't that break the alleged ladies' agreement?

Oh, shut up, biatch.

YOU are a bully who tried to screw low-income women just because you think that all women should be forced to have children against their will.

Fark you.

They have literally advocated every physical possibility as their reason to remove their funding of PP. Honesty is not something they give two farks about.

Random question, but wasn't it Susan G. Komen that announced that it was cutting Planned Parenthood's funding, not Planned Parenthood?

Can I just say, as someone who loves seeing Republican social engineering fail and thinks that Komen is a scam that this is awesome to watch?

You may. And I second that emotion.

Fark you, Karen Handel. And Fark You, too, Komen. "For the cure", my ass. Buncha money-grubbing scam artists, hiring a farking right-wing nutter to get you out of the business of helping women who need it and back to the business of making tons of money for your execs... Every bit as bad as the Red Cross under Dole.

That's my biggest issue. Hell I would have more respect if they had stuck to their guns and stayed with defunding PP. But once the pressure started, they folded faster than Superman on laundry day (thanks Bart).

It's an agreement that, sometime in the future, one of them will stab the other in the back and steal their boyfriend.

Something do with having to share your tampon/pads in a bathroom or something. Heck, having to go to the bathroom in groups is all part of it. They go in groups because they are sharing equipment for their woman parts.

I object to her use of that term. In order for it to be applicable here, both parties would have to be ladies. She's no lady.

A biatch's barter? How about a coont's concordance?

The issue would flare up, then die down, then flare up again. It was fairly cyclical. But over the summer, it intensified. More donors said they were pulling out. The issue was ratcheting up. It wasn't dying down.

"Two dozen Catholic bishops were saying not to support Komen," she continued. "We needed to find some options for moving to neutral ground. I was tasked with doing that."

Sure, fine, "two dozen" bishops were in a snit over the money Komen sent to Planned Parenthood and were telling other people to not support you. Then you decided to drop funding for PP and about two hundred thousand dozen regular people, people who actually donated money to your organization, rose up with a giant biatch slap and it cost you your job.

Here's the deal, Karen, of course there are a few handfuls of vocal assholes out there decrying things like this, but the rest of us normal folks out here expect you to be able to sack up and ignore them.

This is exactly it. Komen could probably have gotten even MORE support by coming out and saying "We've been getting a bunch of flak from the Catholic Church for supporting Planned Parenthood, but we're sticking to our belief that curing cancer is worth it. Can we count on people to support us if the bishops persuade others not to contribute?"

I would have thrown a few more bucks their way. Heck, maybe more.

This is about the point in time when Komen wishes that this person would just shut up.

The fact that she is still talking just shows that she is a politician and her moves are politically motivated. Any normal person would just shut up and try to find another job.

You know they want to move on and get back to making money hand over fist, I mean, finding a cure for cancer, but this one just won't let them.

And she's probably not going to have an easy time finding a job -- her name is poison right now. If you ran a high profile company that had an opening that she would consider, would you want her name on your payrolls?

It's not that they're ahead, but...shouldn't they quit while they're ahead? Bringing this up again and again to try and deflect is only making them look worse every single time.

WTF Indeed: WTF is a "ladies agreement"?

It's a gentlemen's agreement written on pink paper with a sticker of a ribbon attached, if Foundation "for the Cure"* is to be believed.

*-Proposal: Stop shorthandedly referring to the organization in question as Susan G. Komen or SGK. Susan G. Komen was a woman who sadly died of cancer. She had nothing to do with the foundation or the pile of dogshiat it became. By saying "Oh what a terrible thing Susan G. Komen has done", we're blaming a dead woman rather than her sister and the collection of litigious and money-making turds her sister has hired under her name.

2012-02-10 05:42:46 PM
Doesn't the existence of a "deal" suggest that both sides were getting something of value? I fail to see how PP was getting anything other than screwed.

You could use the full name. For me, Foundation "for the Cure" is the idea I just came up with. They're not actually for a cure, or women's health in general, but they are certainly in favor of the phrase "for the Cure". Most of the other suggestions I brainstormed involving the word "pink" are likely the names of porn sites, so I'm not going with them.

FTFA: This past December, the president of Komen, Liz Thompson, met with the president of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards, to discuss the decision, according to Handel. "There was an open and candid conversation about the controversy and the effect on Komen. There was a gentle ladies' agreement, if you will, that no one was going to go to the press about this," Handel said. In the agreement, she said, Komen offered to continue funding current grants, but not future ones.

There is no way that a legitimate vice-president of a major non-profit group believes this. Management and Negotiation 101 tell you that a tangible agreement involves something that benefits both sides. In this arrangment, it sounds like PP had nothing to lose and everything to gain---being told we'll cut you off now or later is not a viable agreement of any sort. Why should PP keep quiet if its only choice is "lose the money?" This person has some sort of actual formal training in management?

i just want to know what the equivalent of codifying the agreement with a handshake would be in this situation. you have to believe it involves scissoring somehow.

This is perplexing. I just Googled who her husband was, Steve Handel, and it sounds like he is a motard

Link (new window)

I have no idea how she got those connections, other than Republicans allow uneducated people to run for office, and it makes me kind of jealous. All you have to be is conservative and have money behind you and you can run for whatever you want as a Republican.
