this is what happens when democrats lose their power.

Savage Steve Holland (d) pouts about being second fiddle and elects to taunt those wanting to keep illegals out of Mississippi.

/you have to admit, it was pretty funny and even funnier that this guy is the butt of all jokes. Not bad for a funeral home director that has been on the dole for decades.

Don't worry, you won't see it again for a while.

Pointing and laughing is far from panicking

2012-02-10 02:28:55 PM
FTFA:When reached by The Associated Press, Quasius said that even if the bill was meant as a joke, Holland should still withdraw it and apologize, saying Holland was wasting taxpayers' money. "It's in rather poor taste and we don't pay legislators to make jokes.''

= "My butt hurts."

2012-02-10 02:29:38 PM
I knew it was a Democrat... those guys hate America and would never seriously introduce a patriotic job-creating bill like this one.

Poe's Law has escaped from the internet and found its way to the halls of government.

That was Colbert-level trolling. Bravo, good representative, bravo.

2012-02-10 02:46:04 PM
That can of worms is now open and you must hate America if you don't get behind this bill.

2012-02-10 02:48:53 PM
From TFA: "The longtime legislator is known for his sense of humor. Holland is a funeral director, and his funeral home gives out insulated beverage sleeves that say 'We'll be the last to let you down.'"

Brilliant, just brilliant.

It is never possible for us to stop panicking. The Constitution says that "All citizens shall panic at all times under penalty of immolation." Look it up, jackass.

LarryDan43: That can of worms is now open and you must hate America if you don't get behind this bill.

Lies and heresy. I propose we call it the Gulf of God. You must hate all of creation if you don't get behind my proposal.

I love that the pro-hispanic pro-immigration GOP group is called the "Cafe Con Leche Republicans", and that they're apparently immune to humor.

Also--if your legislature is passing awful legislation, it's probably a net BENEFIT to society to "waste time" on joke bills.

2012-02-10 02:56:18 PM
Stupid prick should be fined for administrative costs and censured.

So who is more self loathing, the cafe con leche republicans or log cabin republicans?

Oh yeah, we haven't had the last of his "jokes". He's extremely upset that Gunn didn't give him a chairmanship or even keep him on any of the committees he's served on for decades. On one hand, turn about is fair play....but on the other hand I think Gunn should have been "the better man". Oh well.

The democrats have been running the state house since the 1890's. It is unlikely they will return to power in the next 50 years. So I agree with you.

At first I was like "WTF??" but thinking about, why not? It would be a fitting tribute to those who have traveled to the US to become citizens.

Since Mexico is part of the American continents, I would have been okay with that

"Playa Baghdad?" Maybe THIS is where that Texas Retard we had as President thought the WMD were. Then Cheney and Rumsfeld invaded the wrong place and he didn't have the balls to correct them?? IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!!!

Spoken like someone who's never actually paid attention to the US Congress.

And they say Republicans lack the ability to process humor and sarcasm. Ha!

Okay, I like this guy and I'd use that funeral home for my own passing.

Quasius said race, immigration and ethnicity were issues too sensitive for satire.

"It's not the time and place for satire,'' Quasius said. "A leader should be sensitive and in tune with how a proposal they make will be taken.''

What? The more important the issue, the more the target of satire it should be.

I suppose everyone in that original thread will be walking back their responses.

I say go for the giggle. =)

You don't think Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida wouldn't have a problem with that?

you mean those other states we tend to keep gainfully employed through the oil industry

well, except for florida, they're owned by the mouse, but i'm sure an accommodation can be reached with them

Well if we're going that way why don't we go with:

"Gulf of ExxonMobil, Chevron, and Conoco"

Fark the other non US companies.

because the gulf of chexonmoboco doesn't have such a romantic ring to it

Have you ever been to the Exxon Training facility on Buffalo Speedway?

If you ever get to go, take a look at the mural, if you can call it that, its more of a timeline that shows the name "Standard Oil company of New York" next to that with a line (kinda like a march madness bracket) shows all the companies and how they've all, for the most part come back together. The only two left are Chevron and ExxonMobil...its a bit surreal.

can't say I have, but that would be pretty damn cool. I wonder if they still keep it up to date

I wonder if they'll make one at the upcoming exxonmobil campus that'll be built south of the woodlands

Next time I'm there I'll try to snap a pic quickly.

Yes, they keep it up to date.

The third thing: the training center won't be moved. It's too new and they own it, and the whole point of it is to be able to get people away from the office so they'll focus on training.

I haven't seen any updated plans but they tend to do cool stuff like that on buildings/campuses they own. Hell, the Mobil Pegasus is all over Dallas. It's sort of like the cities unofficial mascot.

I, for one, think we should embrace the Gulf of Chexonmoboco. It sounds more exotic than "Mexico."
