Actually it was ghost-written by Alan Dean Foster.

Sorry to burst your bubble folks.

Who gives a shiat?

Lucas has already proven he's a money driven hack that had nothing to do with the success of the original films and continues to shiat on his IP to squeeze every last drop of revenue out of it.

Greedo shot first

2012-02-10 12:07:29 PM
To paraphrase William Shatner, "Dear God, get a life people!"

2012-02-10 12:16:01 PM
I find the certitude of a lot of people on either side of this argument to be a little puzzling. From the dialogue between those two in that scene there is at least some ambiguity about whether Greedo is intending to kill Han this time instead of taking him in alive. This book passage doesn't actually contradict that, it just says Han emerges from the fog and the other doesn't.

2012-02-10 12:18:55 PM
Why does this matter and why is anyone getting upset or spending more than 2 seconds worth of thought on the issue?

2012-02-10 12:19:51 PM
What makes it so absurd is that Han Solo is one of the least-threatening people in the whole saga. He's a total softie. The desperate need for him to have shot first is not about his character, but the version of him that his fans desperately want him to be (but just never showed on screen, changes or otherwise).

Should we all just repost our comments from yesterday's George Lucas thread?

Overzealous ghostwriter.

If you're a fan of the OT, it's a pretty big deal since it fundamentally altered the nature of the character.

/The key characteristic of Han Solo in the early scenes. is that he is not heroic. He's underhanded, looks for every advantage and doesn't care about anything beyond himself and his ship.
//The fact that he grows into a heroic character is what's known as a character arc and is pretty important to have in modern fiction.

///Yeah, I'm biting on a troll but I'm bored.

2012-02-10 12:25:09 PM
Jeez, doesn't anyone own a scanner any more, or at the very least could you fix the lighting?

2012-02-10 12:30:24 PM
Yeah I hear Harrison's in talks to play Solo again...

/could be on a guitar tho
//you know how i know Han Solo wasn't a replicant?
//Greedo was full of "shot holes"

*That Thing You Do extended cut has a scene that shows Tom Hanks character may be gay.
*Star Wars and Han shooting first makes him a badass who helps the goody two-shoes.
*The "deleted scene" of the Mouth of Sauron showing the mithril to Aragorn and company and therefore making them believe Frodo is DEAD changes the entire meaning of the fight at the black gate in ROTK.
*Directors cut of Abyss changes how you feel about the aliens.
*A deleted scene in Sucker Punch with Babydoll would have changed her character in the end.

These things matter in a "feel" for a movie experience.
They don't really matter in real life though, sure.

/Rosebud was originally the maid he got pregnant but had her killed by a robot from the future.

SilentStrider: Actually it was ghost-written by Alan Dean Foster.

Well then lets take a look at the original script:

GREEDO: That's the idea. I've been looking forward to killing you for
a long time.

HAN: Yes, I'll bet you have.

Suddenly the slimy alien disappears in a blinding flash of
light. Han pulls his smoking gun from beneath the table as the
other patron look on in bemused amazement. Han gets up and
starts out of the cantina, flipping the bartender some coins
as he leaves.

HAN: Sorry about the mess.

/Lucas may of intended for Greedo to shoot first but the script, the filming of the scene, and the editing (by his ex-wife) says he is full of bullshiat

Watching George trolling the hell out of the fanboys is much more entertaining than the movies are.

2012-02-10 12:46:58 PM
You're just reading it at the wrong angle. Printing technology at the time didn't allow George to properly express his vision onto the paper.

Are they rereleasing A New Hope in 3D or do they show Luke on Tatooine as part of the tv ad for TPM as a trick to convince people it's a better movie?

you are patently wrong.
have you even seen the film you are talking about?

watch "STAR WARS" again..the original that was released in theatres in 1977..
then watch it again.
pay close attention to these things;

- He attempts to rip off Obi Wan by overcharging them for a trip to Alderaan
- He shoots Greedo in the nuts.
- He then tips the bartender poorly.
- He is a total dick the entire trip.
- He shoots an Imperial Guard or two...aiming for the nuts again.
- He then wants to sit around while the old guy does the hard work.
( He says he would prefer a straight fight to all the "sneakin around" yet..he was hiding a few minutes earlier..so..he's a liar..)
- Upon entering the security station in the Death Star, shoots a bunch of guards..in the nuts..
- He biatches and complains the entire time he is on the Death Star.
- He does nothng but brag the entire ride to Yavin, then ponders banging the underage Princess.
- He takes his reward and leaves.
- He THEN has a change of heart and farks it up for Darth Vader, then brags about it.

EMPIRE

- Yells at Chewie non stop.
- Treats everyone like shiat
- Bangs the Princess
- Whips out his blaster in a quickdraw against Vader
- Gets frozen In carbonite but not before an arrogant quip about how awesome he is.

RETURN OF THE JEDI

-Kenner action figure.

yeah. I'd say he was a"softie".

Understanding film syntax and decisive character development is probably not your strong point..I mean not as strong as posting nonsense on the internet like "Han was a softie"....

Not to worry though, you could remedy this by learning to read, watching more films and trying to make friends that can actually respond to some form of interaction outside of "totally dude"...

You are absurd.
your post is weak.
your troll fu is weak.

I stopped to ponder for a moment just how awful a novel actually written by George Lucas would be. Could be the first book to actually induce seizures due to its dialogue.

they are and or do or do not will they release the three dee and or without the TPM R2D2 BBQ!!...etc etc.

could be both and/or neither depending on how bad their sentence structure is.
hopefully it's not as bad as yours.

/ i hear they put Camryn Manheim digitally in it so it can or are either
//like TPM trick where they use words

Anyone ever point out that Han took a shot a Vader when all Darth did was invite him in for lunch? Not a nice way to treat your host I would think.

mauricecano: Why does this matter and why is anyone getting upset or spending more than 2 seconds worth of thought on the issue?

I've long since gotten over it but my biggest complaint was that the obvious special effects used to "fix" the scene killed the moment for me.

Ditto the walkie talkies in ET but at least Spielberg saw the error of his ways.

Just listened to the Star Wars Radio play (A New Hope: Ep 6 - The Millennium Falcon Deal)

21:20 into the episode, is the Han / Greedo secene,

One shot, one kill.

Lucas has to be the luckiest person ever in the film business.

I give him full credit for the idea even though he borrowed from previous sources. It was his ridiculous space story in the end.

But the more you hear the background of SW, the more you realize he backed into success with the project.

Even everything that went wrong turned out right. He didn't mean for Han Solo to turn out so cool. The studio made him take less money in return for the 'useless' merchandising rights, etc.

His greatest contribution to the Star Wars universe may have been giving way to other writers, editors, and eventually directors.

Chewie roars something before Han shoots at Vader.

"HARK! AN UNSUSPECTING RODIAN!" and Han just reacted with instinct.

No excuse George. You saw the movie before it was released. You okayed it. Greedo didn't fire his weapon... at all.

Tough sh*t that no one likes you redo. Own it. It re-writes an important bit in the movie and nobody but you likes it.

What the hell is wrong with George these days? It used to be "I changed it, and it's my f*cking movie!" This year he been whining about everything.
