She was only a weightlifter's daughter, but you should have seen her snatch.

From TFA:
After the Taliban banned women from participating in sporting events, the International Olympic Committee suspended Afghanistan from the games. Afghanistan missed the 2000 Olympics in Sydney as a result. The Taliban were toppled in 2001 and the suspension was lifted the following year. Afghanistan sent female athletes - for the first time in its history - to the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Fascinating that the IOC allowed Afghanistan to compete in the Olympics despite not sending any female athletes - as it did with numerous other Muslim countries - but banned the country from competing when the Taliban came into power and banned women from participating in sports at home. And the IOC claims to be apolitical...

Also fascinating that several countries (three, I think) still refuse to allow female athletes to represent their country at the Olympics, and yet the IOC apparently has no problem with those countries. Saudi Arabia, for example, has ridiculous rules in place that force women who want to play sports to do so in secret. But hey, Saudis are on the IOC and have loads of cash, so, you know...

Not interested. I'll bet she has sharp...

In line with conservative norms for women in Afghanistan, Rahimi is expecting to wear black tights under her boxing gear at the Olympics to cover her knees.

Hmmm, maybe this could work. Proceed.

In other news, her uncles are making plans to set her on fire for dishonoring the family by leaving the house. They will then celebrate by sodomizing young boys.

/ but it's their culture

Or more likely, a wild .22 caliber bullet will decide to make its nest in the back of her neck because she might undo some of the dehumanizing of Arabs the media has worked so hard for. And we'll never hear about it.
