(YouTube) Video Here's an okay song from Roberta Flack, who turns 75 today. I mean, there's no autotune and she doesn't have any classy cleavage tats, and I don't think she's ever slept with anybody in the NBA, but whatever   (youtube.com) divider line 30

Yeah, that's probably my favorite too. Second place would be "Killing Me Softly with His Song"

I wouldn't be surprised if she was one of Wilt's umpteen jillion conquests, but that's pure speculation.

I Have The Touch of a Shocked Monkey: The Fugees made Roberta Flack more popular than she ever was.

"Let's take a perfectly good song, perform it exactly as it was originally performed, but yell 'UH UH' and 'ONE TIME, TWO TIME' over it."

I don't know what comedian said this, but it's true. They took a wonderful song and crapped all over it. Fark the Fugees and especially Wyclef, who found a way to further tarnish the already embarrassing remake of "We Are the World". A pool of vomit has more talent than Wyclef.

Ummmm... she was pretty damn popular in the 1970s and 80s.

6 top-ten singles, 13 Grammy nominations with 4 wins.

The Fugees had one top-ten single... covering her song.

So, no.

That and running a "chairty" for Haiti for his own profit.

Thanks subby, as this song was playing during my first.

What do you mean there's no auto-tune? Just listen to it. (new window)

Oh, wait...

Love that song, love her singing it, but that particular version isn't even close to her best work.

/sigh

Normally I'd post a chart but that seems like a needless distraction here so I'll just mention "Feel Like Makin' Love" and "The Closer I Get to You."
Always nice to hear her voice.

The only song I ever sang to a woman was this one. That woman and I danced to it at our wedding reception. (Roberta's rendition, certainly not mine. I can't sing worth nuttin).

/We also danced to Lyle Lovett's 99 to Life
//Wife has a great sense of humor

Always thought she had a good voice, just never liked her choice of songs.

And '99 to Life' is a great song.

He might not have been trolling. I'm pretty sure he's 14. Anyway, everyone knows that Roberta Flack wasn't famous until Johnny Cash covered her. (new window)

I've always been amazed at the raw patience she deployed in rendering this song. That's not easy to pull off. No boasting; just waiting for the listening audience to get pulled in. It worked.

She should collaborate with Bela Fleck.

Is there some law saying they can't be both?
