No worries. He'll marry one and retroactively baptize the other so she gets her own planet in the afterlife. Then, when Mittens slips this mortal coil, he can hang with her too.

I know more about Jehova Witnesses than Mormons. My cousin's Elder told him he could drink 2 beers at a sitting. So my cousin regularly buys 2 Quarts bottles of "Fin du Monde" (9% alcohol) and knocks them back. Effectively like drinking 8 American beers. He's basically cleverly tricking God on a technicality.

I enjoy the implication that Adam had multiple wives prior to the Garden of Eden. Here I thought that Genesis says God created Adam in the Garden, and then created Eve at Adam's request. Apparently not!

As most people will know, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling that overturned Proposition 8. The Proposition was an initiative that stripped away marriage rights from California's same-sex couples and was funded heavily by Mormons responding to a call by church leaders. Mormon money was what made the difference and funded its deceitful campaign.

"I'm going to leave out the part that recognizes the fact that the voters of California are the ones that ultimately passed this bill because demonizing them is counter productive. It will also allow me to continue to pretend that conservatives and/or the religious are the only problem and ignore the fact that in order for this bill to pass it would have taken more than a few registered Democrats."

And no, it was not "all Republicans and a few Democrats" that passed that bill. You can say without a doubt that the majority of the votes that passed Prop 8 came from Republicans and religious types but there are two things you're just going to have to admit if you want to be honest.

There are more than a few Republicans that voted against Prop 8.
There are more than a few Democrats that voted for Prop 8.

So running around crying about the Mormon influence as if it's your only problem is a good way to make a scape goat but a bad way to get people on your side.

Don't start your article about Mormon's being dishonest, which is accurate, by perpetuating a dishonest belief that makes you feel better.

So Adam complained to God about this and that's when Eve got cloned.

from wiki:
"In Jewish folklore, from the 8th-10th centuries Alphabet of Ben Sira onwards, Lilith becomes Adam's first wife, who was created at the same time and from the same earth as Adam. This contrasts with Eve, who was created from one of Adam's ribs. The legend was greatly developed during the Middle Ages, in the tradition of Aggadic midrashim, the Zohar and Jewish mysticism.[3] In the 13th Century writings of Rabbi Isaac ben Jacob ha-Cohen, for example, Lilith left Adam after she refused to become subservient to him and then would not return to the Garden of Eden after she mated with archangel Samael.[4] The resulting Lilith legend is still commonly used as source material in modern Western culture, literature, occultism, fantasy, and horror."

Also, not as such. Instead, the LDS church has posthumous polygamy. A man may be sealed to multiple wives on Earth, who will then be his polygamous harem in the Celestial Kingdom. (See, e.g. Doctrine & Covenants section 132).

So really, to be accurate, you'd have to say that the LDS church has not practiced bigamy since 1904, but that it still has polygamy.

It's not right. Mormons aren't supposed to drink or consume anything that alters the mind. Which means that caffeine is right out. Un (not de) caffeinated beverages are ok, as far as I know. The "hot drinks" from the Words of Wisdom is not sacrament and you won't be ex-comm'd over it. You won't be a bishop or get a temple recommend if you have WoW problems, but it's not something they'll toss you out in the street over.

Of course, this is all just memories from 10+ years ago.

Congratulations. I'm hoping you are OK with it.

I'm non-practicing/non-believing Catholic. We don't have many Mormons up here but we have a shiatload of Jehova Witnesses. Whenever, they know on my door, I tell them that I've been disfellowshipped and the look on their face is priceless. They don't say a word, they turn, and they practically run away. Plus they don't come back. I advise everyone to say this if they don't like these types of visits.

What do Mormon's do if you tell them you are "ex-communicated". Is there a higher "shunning" level than that?

I don't tell Mormons in casual conversation that I've been ex-comm'd. But when Missionaries show up to the door, I lead them along for a bit, asking the right questions, then drop the bomb on them. They stop coming around until the next group of missionaries is brought into town. Rinse, repeat.

My mom actually converted after I was ex-comm'd. She is still in the church to this day, even at the point that she teaches some seminary classes. She and I have a great relationship built on the understanding that we don't speak about the church, lest she have to spend the next 3 hours defending her religion as I poke holes in it. The last time we talked about the church really was the last time. I felt bad, but I think I got her to thinking about things. This was right after I learned that they baptized my grandfather posthumously. I do not abide that particular practice. I don't even care that the person has the choice to accept the baptism or not. If you missed out on their soul in life, you don't get to take a second shot at it after death.

FuturePastNow: Don't see a problem with plural marriages, as long as everyone's consenting.

For that to work, it would imply a single ceremony. Plural marriages normally involving a man marrying one woman and then later on marrying a second woman. The first wife could technically agree to the second wife but maybe under pressure (threat of divorce). In these cases, that man normally is the income and has the upper hand in the relationship. The wife may have thought of the first marriage as being monogamous in which case, the second marriage invalidates the first. Very messy and that is not even getting into divorce.

If the second wife is helping raise the kids of the first wife and vice versa, you create additional family bonds and custody issues. The man can arbitrarily divorce one of the wives. The other wives wouldn't have a say. The women being divorced would have no claims of custody for non-biological children which she could have help raise (perhaps even exclusively raise). Fair division of assets is highly impractical.

In almost all scenarios, the man has the advantage and there fore the "equality" argument doesn't really fit. Because it is essentially of marriage of inequality.

I have no issue of them using the term "marriage" or even it being a legal marriage but it is a more complicated contract and would therefore must have additional conditions. A prenuptial agreement should be mandatory and all parties must have to consult individual lawyers in the process. A ceremony must include all spouses. Also, parental roles should be monitored to ensure that the legal/biological or adoptive parent is performing the primary parental role.

All-in-all, I would prefer this type of marriage was not recognized by the State. A) it isn't a two-party contract B) you aren't born a biological pluralist

That's gonna save a LOT of good, wholesome Christians money because they'll no longer need to pay court fees for divorcing previous wives, they can just marry as many women as they like.

/as god intended

..and people! we kill people! Why? Because it's FUN!

The_Six_Fingered_Man: This was right after I learned that they baptized my grandfather posthumously. I do not abide that particular practice. I don't even care that the person has the choice to accept the baptism or not. If you missed out on their soul in life, you don't get to take a second shot at it after death.

so like taking indulgences for someone who has passed back in the christian reformation days?

FuturePastNow: Don't see a problem with plural marriages, as long as everyone's consenting.

What about a simple majority?

You don't hate democracy do you?

Read that last statement in Herman Cain's voice.

Uh... a long time ago (not real long, but after Joseph Smith was spoken to by God who was hanging out on the planet Kolob orbiting a nearby star) God told joe that he could marry as many women as he wanted, so he did.

Uncle Sam struck that down, they said you can believe whatever you want, you can have any religion you want, but you can only marry one wife.

So a bunch of mormons tried to skirt federal law and they moved to NW Mexico in an attempt to live their polygamous ways and maybe even convert a few heathen Mexicans.

They didn't have much luck converting anyone (they forgot to bring their swords, that's how most conversions took place, in centuries prior) but they did come back with weed.

So Utah became the first state in the nation to outlaw herb because they're against euphoriants of any kind. Because, ... yeah.
