Bleagh. Patent trolling usually refers to where a company holds patents but does not use them to make a product, but rather use them to sue others.

Motorola makes plenty of products using their patents. I can't see why it would be patent trolling.

It also can refer to when the patent office grants an overly broad or obvious patent, which the company then uses to sue other people.

/DRTFA, have no idea if this applies to the patents in question

Here's the patent in question.

Apple patents making a black rectangle and they're totally right to defend it.

Motorola patents a piece of actual technology fundamental to how CDMA networks work, and they're trolling.

I farking love this site.

/also, subby, Google doesn't own Motorola yet
//not sure how valid Motorola's patent is, but at least it represents something other than being pretty

B-b-but all known technology flows from Steve Jobs. He is the rebirth of Hermes Trismegistus.

Subby must be stuck up someone's arse at Apple HQ. Motorola is not yet owned by Google, so this is not Google's doing. Moreover, Motorola is fighting fire with fire. Apple is patent trolling every company that makes a smartphone to prevent them from competing against its precious little iPhone. It knows its trolling and is doing it mainly to increase the cost of competition. Motorola is simply pulling an Apple as payback.

He was a fictional boy-loving satanic priest-alchemist?

//actually, that makes sense
