The U2 song is from Achtung Baby. It's okay. U2 didn't start getting shiatty until Zooropa.

Or you can hate U2 without making a big deal out of it.

Oh subby. Ye of little faith.

Fox News will find plenty to hate. One of the artists is a gay hispanic. And is raising a child in sin?

The lyrics to the Isley Brothers "Fight The Power" pretty much sums up his presidency.

are those the only three bands you listen to? wow. i mean, they're not bad or anything, but that's got to get repetitive.

I wonder what Abraham Lincoln would think about presidents having playlists, and releasing them on f*cking Spotify as part of their campaigns.

What a joke.

2012-02-10 10:47:46 AM
Seems it was "tailor made" to me.
For me, it would be whole albums along with some mix picks.
Starting with Pink Floyd and Roger Waters.

Hell, If I was running for pres. I'd hope they would let me use "Wish you were here" as a theme song.

snowshovel: All_Farked_Up: skullkrusher: I'm shocked by the lack of NWA, Propagandhi, Phish, world music and Dick Manitoba and the Dictators

Ya know, cuz he's an angry black, radical socialist, do nothing, Kenyan.. umm... dictator.

This is his campaign playlist, not his private one :-p. On a side note, have the republicans candidates even figured out how to use the internet?

Oh my, I hadn't even thought about that. You just know that there's some republican toady RIGHT NOW quickly assembling/looking for something like this to prove that they are just as in-tune with internet hip crowd, and it will wind up being something like "here's a geocities where you can download all of the quicktimes that Newt listens to" or something just as ridiculous.

And then they'll blame the librul media when the internet laughs at them.

austin_millbarge: Is this the thread where I act like I'm cool and superior for hating on u2?

No, that's two threads over to the left. This is the one where I act like I'm cool and superior for having seen U2 live at Red Rocks in the 80s, and for having liked them before they hit the U.S. market.

if you don't like U2, you're probably a hipster

see, this puts farkers in a horrible conundrum, because they don't want to like U2 (how can you be special and unique if you like what everyone else likes?), but they certainly don't want to be caught being a hipster (because hipsters are arrogant and snobby for no good reason)

Fact: lincoln really loved the song "Dixie" -- he even wrote about it.

I know, i know, don't feed it.

Sol Invicti: Anyone else find this a little hard to believe?

Really? He slaps his Beats (R) by Dre on his head while he's chillin' out on Air Force One and sings along to Dierks Bentley? And then, right after that, he's listening to Al Green?

Color me skeptical. Sounds like a PR move to make him the "Just Like Me" (tm) presidential candidate.

Uh, yeah. It's his campaign playlist. It's less the list of music he listens to and more the list of music that will be playing when he takes the stage to give campaign speeches.

This list confirms what many of us already suspected/knew.

Obama is actually a white guy.

U2? Sugarland? REO Speedwagon? Electric Light Orchestra? Ricky Martin?!?!

This is not the playlist of a black man. Someone check the president's wash room for some black face. We've been duped for the last 4 years.

I loved U2 until they started to suck around the mid-90s. Anything around Joshua Tree's still great.

Obama is the president of black, white, yellow, red, and who-the-honking cares people.

It's a PR stunt, people. Recognize it, accept it, ignore it. Obama might spend his evenings listening to Rage against the Machine or Mozart. Who knows, and honestly, who cares.

Actions speak louder than words. Vote for his actions. Or against them. But don't vote based on a playlist.

Heh. No, not really. I work from home and my music file shuffles from The Archies to Ministry to Bryan Ferry to Bach to Hank Williams to The Residents to Nina Simone to Nina Hagen to Deadmou5 to Tommy Dorsey to (sigh) U2 (the early stuff). Right now, it's Zeppelin's "Black Dog," with Harold Budd and The Cramps on tap. Then some Carla Bruni, I think.

Anything but f*cking System of a Down, in short. Or the latest incarnation of Smashing Pumpkins (z-z-z-z-z-z. . . )

/Yeah, you get it.

They put out a few shiat albums late in their career, and suddenly every Pitchfork asshole on the internet discounts the bands entire history. Yes, perhaps they should have called it quits years ago, but like the Stones, holding on too long shouldn't discredit the earlier output.

About 1/3 of Sonic Youth's output is indeed objectively bad. The rest ranges from amazing to merely good. (Seriously, "Rather Ripped" was one of the best releases of 2006.)

Farkn Yaj Yenrac: 20 bucks says Obama picked less than 5 of those if any and an intern spent a week researching to get the proper "We're all in this together, roll up your sleeves, bring me back again, we're different but we can still relate, inspirational" mix and ensuring that there was not one possible controversial line for Fox News to nitpick. Hooray America.

It's really a change for the worse from the artistically challenging, but oh so true -to-his-soul campaign song lists of GWB.

I mean, those cuts from PiL's Metal Box GW used to fire up the crowds with really said something about who he was, even if it was difficult for his campaign crowds to follow.
