I May Be Crazy But...: And here's the kicker: HE DOESN'T DRINK IT!

Thats probably a good thing.

Can you imagine him sitting with those bottles and sweating over the decision to take a $1k sip of his colelction?

Bay van der Bunt, 63, said because he and his wife do not have any children or potential heirs to take over his collection of more than 5,000 bottled liquors, he must sell the lot.

Can you say "non sequitur"?

What in the holy flying fark is the point of amassing a collection like this and never drinking any of it? OK, let it appreciate in value and pay for itself and maybe sell some of it, but for the love of god, BOOZE IS FOR DRINKING!

/reminded of the book collector in The Dumas Club who lives in a decrepit old mansion with his collection of old books

Anyone else think 'Bay van der Bunt' is an appropriate name for someone with a rare collection?

I'd imagine it's like a car. Once you open the bottle, it loses a lot of it's value right there. So the first sip is expensive, but the rest are cheap.

Wow, that guy has some serious self-control. I have trouble making it all the way home from the 7-11 without popping a can.

//Just kidding, officer.

Agreed, even high end booze/wine/beer is meant to be consumed!

I was thinking that, too. Although perhaps there effective and generally accepted ways to preserve the quality of the liquor after opening? I'm really not sure.
