This!
There is nothing different than the 4-legged bots we have been seeing for the past 5 years. And 5 years ago they said they would be in use 2 years later...well I guess that's different.

I'm glad were cutting wages for unions so we can spend more money on "great" ideas like this for the military.
Now our wimpy soldiers and their robots can lose to third world farmers. Losing isn't so lonely that way.

Saw one at the Fort Eustis museum back in the 1970's. Didn't look like this. Looked like a framework of metal and hydraulics.

I vaguely remember seeing a video of this thing quite some time ago.
I wonder how the voice thing would work, wouldn't the enemy be able to say come here and have your mule go for it. Seems like a skirmish would be complicated by not only having to fight but also constant yelling from both sides to call the marines mules :p Would it only come to a person with a beacon programmed for that specific mule?
They could also use Fijit friends voice/sonic chirp technology to run their mule, it might be cool to say "dance with me" and have that thing dance especially since it can balance :)

This is actually a new version of the original Big Dog robot, that is significantly larger and designed specifically for a military capability.

What did eisenhower say was the cost of one bomber ? something like 3 schools. Well it's not like there a jobs for those kids so there is no reason to waste money educating them. On the other hand there are a lot of resource rich third world countries that need bombing if they are ever going to get their minds right about who really deserves those resources.

Spending mega-$$ to build something that doesn't quite replace a live mule? Sounds like the military to me...

The robot mule project ties into the armed forces' new 21st century strategy of reducing their reliance on foreign/imported hay.

Came here to say this.
"But ... it can carry almost twice as much as a live mule!"
I love cool tech stuff as much as anyone, but I'm guessing you could buy, train, maintain, and transport a hundred live mules for the cost of one of these units, and every live mule in America for the cost of this entire project.

Now I understand why the Mule wants the military to lose weight, but I can see her taking orders very well.
