I love a wood stove, how else can you make pancakes as you fly down the highway?

SEE? 30 helens agree...

Man, I hope the A/C in that thing works, cause even the smallest WB stove I know would be such overkill. Fella must be a 'cold person' to need that much heat. Last Volvo I drove had a pretty good heater....

More examples of wood gas vehicles, with picturey goodness.

That's not a wood stove...THIS is a wood stove. Not only does it heat the cab, but it fuels the engine as well.

Using the stove only for heat? Weak sauce.

A gas (sipped from the gas tank) burner heater was available as an option on early VWs and Porsches, for when engine warmed air wasn't enough... Google eberspacher heaters

Think they actually had, or may still have, kits for VW's back in the 70's to do this since VW heaters were about as effective as their anti-gravitational units.

/nothing like u sing an ice-scraper INSIDE the car... WHILE you were driving.

Cause it makes you a freakin hazard!
Not only are you putting out more than 10X the pollution, but you are putting open flame near a combustive gas! Take this thing near a gas station without having that fire out cold and you could take out the whole block.

they have functioning bureaucracies. governemnt jobs aren't looked at as a way to milk the taxpayer or as the wages of patronage by the liberals over their but are respected and expanded only when they can deliver benefits to the community I imagine. their liberals aren't like our liberals.

That's what I was about to say. I was halfway expecting that I was going to see that James May had put a wood-burning stove in a car. After all, he did put a sauna in one.

I don't imagine things going very well for him in an accident, especially if he manages to roll the car.

You can still get them on VW's as a "heat the car up without running the engine" option in Europe.

Oh great. Now on top of the idiots using cell phones and texting while driving, we'll have a whole new class of morans feeding their stoves.

Buddy of mine is big on building electric vehicles and has been trying to convince me to convert my little Ranger. Problem lies in that I only drive that in the winter, and I know the cold saps the batteries bad enough without having to heat the interior. Was playing with the idea of putting a wood stove in the bed and running air ducting around it and into the cab before I just gave up on the idea as being overly complicated.

TheMega: Think they actually had, or may still have, kits for VW's back in the 70's to do this since VW heaters were about as effective as their anti-gravitational units.

That would be the *gasoline powered* internal heater unit of which you speak. My father had one that he transferred from air-cooled car to air cooled car; it sounded an awful lot like sitting on top of a jet engine/wing inside a plane, reeked, was quite possibly a CO hazard, and could be turned on with a timer switch set inside the dashboard clock unit... a mechanically-timed, auto-on, gas powered heater. Scary scary! But oh man would that damned thing crank out the BTU's!! It got so hot, it would cause the layers of the safety glass to bubble and separate from each other as the plastic layer melted.

It's no wonder more of those things weren't mobile flamethrower carbecues, but then again, that's what the wiring harnesses in the Type 1's were for.

/In the Type 2 busses, he would also use these as the back-seat heater:

I would have loved that for my '71 Beetle since like most of them, the heater only worked in the summer and the heater levers would inevitably get stuck wide open once the heat exchangers started to rust.

A guy locally installed a small wood burning stove in his volkswagon bus. It worked quite well. Doesn't take much heat to warm up such a small space. He drove all over the states in that bus at one time.

Having seen the inside of a 240 door I would say he probably won't feel much of anything.
