I'm guessing he already downed a couple of bottles before he started filming.

Nice. I like the hand-picks he uses to climb back out after falling through. Skating drunk with a chainsaw over his head was pretty stupid, but it appears he survived.

This dude puts out a ton of videos like these. Uploads as "Apetor" and he's constantly diving into icy waters. Insane, but a very well presented/composed/edited insane.

With enough vodka, he won't freeze

You can buy them in specialized stores.

I got lucky in 1997, and was visiting friends in the Netherlands when the last one happened. Link (new window) I got to do lots of non-touristy things like helping give wild Mouflon sheep vasectomies.

Specialized stores? How about "most any sporting goods/outdoors store?" They are pretty standard fare if you like to go skating/fishing/driving/skating/farking on ice.

About 1min into it, I was thinking "you know what would really make this video awesome? Him being in his undewear." And then BAM! there he is in his underwear.

And then I thought "OK, but what about a chain saw? He doesn't have a chain- ... whoa."

Me too. I haven't been so 'whoa' since I got lucky in 1997.

Well, in Google's defense, there may not be a Norwegian equivalent for "Ya'll"

But you caught my drift...

Johnny Dangerously: fargin ice holes!

2012-02-09 11:59:03 PM
While I have no interest in falling into the water, I will say that I now have a strong desire to drink a bottle of vodka and go ice skating on a lake.

As a life-long Californian, I remember my first winter in Iowa at the age of 21 and walking on a frozen lake for the first time when it was -10 degrees in January. There was a girl with us from Florida who was freaking out about the constant cracking sounds we heard on the ice. Then we found an ice fishing hole someone had drilled and it was obvious the ice was at least a foot thick. Shortly thereafter, we found a number of tire tracks from trucks that had been driving across the ice.

Good time.

I've had that particular vodka featured in the video (Vikingfjord) and it's not too bad. It's a potato vodka and I actually prefer those over grain vodkas. That being said, this guy looks like he's trying out for the Norwegian version of "Jackass".

/Half Norwegian descent.

I was hoping the ice would re-freeze over his head when he stuck it in the hole.

I'd go with: "Hold vodkaen min, og se på dette. Fettoter". The last word is key.

the real question I have... Did he use a tripod, or did he make someone else hold the camera and suffer through that?

UNAUTHORIZED FINGER: I got lucky in 1997, and was visiting friends in the Netherlands when the last one happened.

They really put in every effort to get the ice cleared of snow, with an all volunteer force. Next Sunday, thaw is coming in, and long term predictions say it won't freeze enough after that. Ah well, maybe next year.

It's probably hard to find something about it in English, but try to find something about the one in '63: it's still known as "The 1963 Hell". Out of almost 10.000 tour riders (excluding competitive riders), only 69 reached the finish line. Red Cross tents were full of people with frozen eyes, frost bites, or frozen testicles. Others were completely lost and dazed.

Viral ad. Notice the clear shot of the label whenever he's drinking, and even when the bottle is sliding across the ice. The guy is still insane. But this is viral marketing. For enough money, I'd do that too.
