Wow...so many missed opportunities. I love the game so very much, but damn seeing what they could do in just a week is crazy.

What I really want:

Dragon Mounts
Arrow crafting/tweaking (love the fire/ice arrows)
Spears
New Mounts
Kinect Shouts (I want my neighbors to hear "FUS RO DAH" for hours on end)
Custom home building
Werewolf perk tree
GIANT HUMONGOUS MUD CRABS!!

2012-02-09 01:03:12 PM
I really want to fight a giant mudcrab now.

/I know this sounds odd, but I'd really like a cooking skill tree as well, and a hundred new recipes.

That was also cool to see. As were the goblins.

Seriously. That battle looks 100 times more epic than the Alduin fight.

Reminds me of the Legendary Bloatfly from New Vegas' Old World Blues. "Ohhh it's just a big bloatfly. HOLY shiat HE DECAPITATED ME IN ONE HIT!"

Another vote for Giant Mudcrab here. More missions for the Blades and Nightingales would be good too.

Yes, but you won't be able to re-marry. In the first game I started Ysolda's coffin is in the Whiterun Hall of The Dead. She told me she wanted me to eat her, so I went wolf on her. Not sure if that was what she meant.

I was really surprised to find a couple of those didn't already exist, like mounted combat and dark dungeons. I mean, there's about nine different ways to see in the dark, but no real reason to need to.

Mounted combat would be nice. I have Frost and while he's helpful in a fight, riding him would make travel MUCH better. None of this 'stop, get off the horse, slay 'whatever', remount and ride on.

Also, some way to figure out how you AND your follower can ride the horse. Right now, he/she simply runs behind you.

I'd wager that most of this stuff is developed by modders within the week. I could knock the giant mudcrab thing out in an hour with the new creation kit.

Well, I'm sure having three years experience with the dev tools (specifically for Skyrim) made this much easier for them.

This is equal parts awesome, and MEAN. Kinda like when you go to an auto show, and see a concept car loaded down with AMAZING features that you KNOW will never be available in anything but watered-down form, if at all.

Still, it's fun to see the fruits of Bethesda's creative labors. I hope we DO get at least SOME of this eventually. Any reason to return to Skyrim is a good one, as far as I'm concerned.

Now that the crafting tools are out, it's going to be very quick for these changes to be put in. The 'harder' things to make will be ones with animations and wireframes, since that takes a specific suite of skills/software to put together usually. The rest is just scripting and originality.

I have been farking around with the tools (with no prior experience whatsoever) and craftable arrows are the first thing I put in. When I get home (2 hours or so?) I'll throw up a few basic things that I've discovered as I went along. The arrow crafting in particular is ridiculously easy. The paralysis rune in the video would also be relatively easy...I'll try that out as well.

The mod community has already done most of that, and a ton more, AND they did it better. AND they're still going. Your Dev Team's time would have been better spent fixing the plethora of bugs in your game.

Eh, it's kind of like Minecraft. The community has the weight of thousands behind it working on modding. It's not that Bethesda is not good at modding their own game - they're the best at it - it's that they simply don't have the manpower to make jiggling boob mods and anime faces mods and TOO MANY OSTRICHES mods. One hundred times the manpower, wasting 95% of their time, is still more net work.

Big ups to both of you for acknowledging the awesomeness that are spears! I've missed them dearly since Morrowind. For mostly aesthetic reasons, but also because to me they symbolize the diminishing breadth in options provided at in the series to make way for a more narrow yet balanced set of skills. In fact in an early interview about the game in late 2010, Todd Howard specifically mentioned spears as something that fans complain about not having but that he would gladly give up if it meant a more balanced game system. It's silly that I still remember this but at the time I kind of took it as a punch in the gut.

sprawl15: jiggling boob mods and anime faces mods and TOO MANY OSTRICHES mods

The amazing thing to me is, now matter how stupid I think a mod is, the download counter for it will inevitably have over 10 hits.

"Added mole to Lydia's left ankle" = 12 downloads
"Increased merchant gold by 10 a day" = 25 downloads
"Brightened wagon wheel textures on caravans" = 547 downloads

Ok, just saw it. That was pretty bad ass.

Seemed like there were some Diablo II shout outs in there.

It's silly that I still remember this but at the time I kind of took it as a punch in the gut.

I think they had issues with the shrinking of skills. In Daggerfall, there was no real attempt to balance between combat, magic, and stealth like in Morrowind. Then when they removed some skills (medium armor and typed weapon skills disappeared in Oblivion) they had to remove others to preserve the balance. Skyrim reduced down to 6 skills per 'focus', and tried to pick up some of that variety from the talent trees, but that ran into problems: spears could easily fall into the 2h'er tree, but how would one make a specialization for them? Why spend the resources creating combat animations for a single type of weapon? How do you deal with the loot imbalance of having 4 types of 2h'er and only 3 types of 1h'er?

They erred on the side of user friendliness and simplicity. I can't really blame them, but they've always been very mod-friendly so it's more excusable IMO.

Or at least buy them their own horse...

2012-02-09 05:14:30 PM
Yes, not being able to fight from a horse is really bad. They should definitely fix that first. Crafting arrows should have been in there from the get-go as well. There should have been a lot of dark dungeons that you actually needed to use your night vision or use that stupid "ball of light" staff.

I just defeated Alduin last night and now it's just anti-climactic. They need some kind of Fallout type ending that gives you a nice end scene that tells about all of the things you did to change the world of Skyrim and then your character goes off into the sunset.

Or maybe it's in there and I just haven't gotten to that yet?

2012-02-09 05:15:57 PM
I really look forward to playing Skyrim one day. Maybe when the "Game of the Year" edition comes out at half of the current retail price. Until then I'm not laying out sixty bucks for any game, ever.
