Yes, we've all wanted to shoot petitioners, but that doesn't mean we can go around doing it.

An activist took on the mission
Of pushing a safety petition.
He relished his work.
Or DID, 'til some jerk
Said "no" with some spare ammunition.

Ironicish

shiat like this is exactly why I'm afraid to go out with my petitions for the marijuana initiative and "your Vote counts". St. Louis is full of stupid.

The ironicity of this is ironilicious.

2012-02-09 01:13:22 PM
I know people are always complaining about improper uses of ironic, and I hate to be one of those people, especially since I'm still not clear on the correct usage of the word. But...

Isn't this like a firefighter being killed in a fire? Or a police officer being killed fighting crime? This guy was trying to make Missouri safer, which means Missouri isn't safe (at least he didn't think so). So rather than ironic it seems.... expected.

2012-02-09 01:14:34 PM
Sounds ironic, but I'm not sure.

Help me Irony Police! You're my only hope!

2012-02-09 01:14:37 PM
This is so sad. I'm sorry for him and his loved ones.

Uh, ironic would be the petitioner doing the shooting/beating to make it safer, or borrowing from Family Guy, supporting the death penalty to save lives

But his clothes were completely unwrinkled upon death, so it was ironic, that's how they can tell.

Speak for yourself. I reserve the right to shoot them and Jehovah's Witnesses.

also, I don't think this fits the actual definition of Irony.

For those of you still confused, the way I remember it is, it's Ironic if it is the OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU EXPECT TO HAPPEN.

and unfortunately, walking around St. Louis trying to talk to strangers carries a distinct possibility of getting shot. Therefore, not ironic, just depressing.

2012-02-09 01:24:24 PM
If only he'd been carrying a fully-automatic assault weapon, this never would've happened.

Isolated irony, overzealous petitioner.

St. Louis is so full of thugs and racists it's hard to be surprised.

2012-02-09 01:25:45 PM
Is that why they call it the "Show Me" state?

If there's any group of people I hate more than racists, it's thugged-out darkies...

Perhaps they need to rename it to the 'Shoot Me State'...

Obviously, we DON'T WANT St. Louis to be safer. Geez!

Now get off my lawn.

Missouri doesn't have pens, that's how they sign petitions...

It is, in the alternate universe.

As far as we know he pulled a six-shooter on his loved ones in that back alley.

The Safer Missouri thing is one of those misleading political names. It's about returning control of the St. Louis police department to St. Louis. What that has to do with a safer Missouri is unclear to me.

And in case you're wondering, the state took control of the police departments in St. Louis and Kansas City during the Civil War. They didn't want them to turn into impromptu militias.

2012-02-09 01:51:14 PM
"St. Louis man fatally shot", you could literally put ANYTHING after these words and it would old or common news.

2012-02-09 01:54:01 PM
The exact same thing happened to Jesus except that he wasn't carrying a petition and he wasn't shot and he wasn't in St. Louis and I don't think this guy was a Jew.

Besides that it's the exact same thing.

So, you could say that the name of the petition itself is ironic, eh?

Pa said to shoot folks servn papers. I nicked the census man.

2012-02-09 01:58:46 PM
That's not really a great neighborhood. I used to work in that area. Kids would cut the chain link fence and break in to the cars parked in the back row.

Used to see the local gentry shooting their guns in to the air on the Fourth of July, New Years Eve or Shoot Your Damn Gun in to the Air Night. At least they shot up and not at.

It'll keep St. Louis safer by not allowing the police to form a militia and go off to support the Confederates.

This is why I don't like to hang out downtown in Dallas, Kansas City, St Louis or any place really big like that. I stay in the suburbs. Downtowns always a crater.

A man who was found shot multiple times and carrying petitions to support A Safer Missouri's local control ballot initiative Tuesday night has died, according to police.

ITS LIKE RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN!

2012-02-09 02:12:46 PM
The day before:

[on the streets of St. Louis]

Petition man: "Sign my petition to make Missouri safer."
person: "Show me some statistics to reveal how dangerous it is in Missouri."
Petition man: "Look at these numbers."
person: *looks at statistics* "meh" *walks away*
Petition man: "These violence statistics just aren't shocking enough to make people sign my petition. What can I do to make these statistics more shocking?"

2012-02-09 02:13:25 PM
Has anyone pointed out that this isn't ironic?

2012-02-09 02:14:13 PM
Another article says he was shot in the chest ten times. That sounds kind of personal.

Not so much ironic as it proves his point. Now he has solid data for his petition, which I'm sure he'd like if it weren't for the whole dead thing.

It has nothing to do with a safer MO. It's an attempt to get people to sign it without knowing what it is.

STLPD should be under the control of the city, but using misleading titles to garner just a little bit more support always rubs me the wrong way.

Isn't that just like a wop? Brings a petition to a gun fight.
