Well, I know I am going to take some heat for this, but I figured this was the best place to share this story:

I used to work as TSA when it was still pretty young and I never liked having to take someone's pot. I personally don't imbibe myself, but it didn't seem right to me if a guy had a joint or two in a cigarette pack, someone searches the pack and has to take it, but when I had this particular run-in, I had to get the cops to intervene.

The guy went through the metal detector with loafers on which had the usual steel support so they set off the walk-through and he had to get wanded. Pretty standard, remove your shoes please, no problems, then I wanded his feet, i get a beep. I asked why his ankle was beeping; pins or screws from an accident maybe before i patted him down. He motioned me closer and told me that he had his pot in his sock. Well, my immediate question back was "Why is it setting off my metal detector?" To which he told me that he wrapped it in aluminum foil to avoid detection.

Now say what you want about the TSA and their invasive pat-downs and everything else, but the metal detectors had been around long before 9/11 and this guy (IMHO) had clearly had enough of what he was smoking and didn't need this one. I felt bad for having to give the guy a hard time, but c'mon...

Anyway, he forgot that there was a small bag (less than 1 gram) in his cargo pants pocket. When the metal buttons set off the wand, he threw the bag in the tray, figuring he was boned. Guard grabs the sack, pockets it, and waves my buddy through; then goes an informs his supervisor that he and Larry are taking their break now.
