Sierra made great games until they made them point and click.

2012-02-09 08:49:06 AM
Glad to see Gabriel Knight as #1. Damn, I wish they would make another sequel. Without the convoluted solutions to the puzzles of course.

I think a more important list than the games in TFA would be a list of sites to get emulations / flash ports / whatever of said games.

2012-02-09 09:48:56 AM
It should be noted that Good Old Games has non-DRM versions of all those Quest games available, cheap.

Unfortunately, story came too late - last weekend, they were all 50% off.

Wow, I hadn't thought about the Gabriel Knight game in years. That was a legitimately creepy game, I enjoyed it quite a bit(and I wasn't generally one to buy the Sierra games back then).

Eddie Adams from Torrance: No Leisure Suit Larry?

Larry games sucked. Once my 13 year old libido looked past the VGA boobs, the games weren't that much fun.

Loved all things Sierra back in the day. But the greatest point and click adventure was:

Becoming a short lived fountain in SQIII was still one of the funniest moments I have ever ran across in a video game.

A line that stuck with me for whatever reason.

Dos box was awesome to replay some the older ones. Played KQ 5 and Trial by Fire in Flashgame format online a while back as well. Game progress was saved as cookies.

Also glad to see Gabriel Knight not only make the list, but top it. It was one of the first games that I remember that I spent a lot of time on (and that was just trying to figure out some of the puzzles). It was absolutely engrossing and a fantastic game.

And to think...I bought it just because someone told me it had pixelated, cartoony boobies.

I loved my Sierra games. But my favorite old PC games have to be Wasteland, Rise of the Dragon and Civilization.

Oh yeah, the one with Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, and Sigourney Weaver in the wig and the unzipped jumpsuit. I LOVE that one!

One of the things I remember about that game is there was a part when you were in the sub and gambling with someone and you couldn't do the save/restore trick. You could restore your game like twice but that was it.

ScummVM supports many Sierra adventure games, though the "high resolution" versions of the later Sierra adventure games are not yet supported.

Yeah, the sub parts in general were frustrating as all hell.

I f*cking love Quest for Glory.

So You Want To Be a Hero? was probably my first religious gaming experience - I couldn't wait to get home from school and take that c*nt Babba Yaga out behind the woodshed and give her what for.

Just talking adventure games in general, I was a big fan of Monkey Island I-III.

Ooh... Also Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

King's Quest strategy:

Move mouse to top left of screen,
Click.
Hope something happens
Do the same thing for entire screen by moving your mouse in a methodical across-then-down, spiral, zig-zag or other method of your choice, clicking and hoping every three pixels.

Quest for Glory...except shadows of darkness had a glitch so you can't beat the game. If anyone has working copies of these games let me know.

This part of your statement is redundant. It never needs to be said. The first part implies that for any human being with higher than a room temperature IQ.

Dust off? Steam keeps my SQ games nice and dust-free.

I should probably play them sometime...

You forgot about failing to buy/bring a certain item that you can't continue later in the game without, reaching that point, realizing you don't have a required item, dying, restarting the game, and smashing your computer with a bat while screaming obscenities.

Whilst GoG is brilliant (picked up both iwar games), I have to wonder how much of that money goes to the people who originally developed the game. Particle Systems (they who wrote Independence War/I-War) don't exist any more the people who worked there long since moved on to other companies, so how do they get paid?

So yeah, it's nice I can get some heh good old games but I do hope the original devs see some of the cash and it's not just feeding Atari/Infogrames, EA or Actiblizzard.

Police Quest was always a favorite, even the original game where you'd instantly lose if you ran a light or forgot to walk around your car all the way.

That said, any game where it lets you strip naked in the middle of meeting with your boss just because you want to (even if you lose the game) is a winner in my book.

If a tree falls in a forest and there is no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?

Is a Sierra Game without convoluted solutions to the puzzles a Sierra Game any longer?

How did Jones in the Fast Lane not make the list? It had more replayability than any of their other games.

Can someone repost list...TR is blocked at work.

I'm a huge fan of both the SQ and KQ series....except for KQ7. True fax: My STO handle is named after Reames(sp?) T. Quirk.

Also, this better be on there as well. i remember it being funny as hell when I was growing up:

Best games from each series:

King's Quest III, Space Quest 3, Police Quest 2, Quest for Glory III (technical issues aside it's a great game).

Also awesome: Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.
