You're going to make your stand on defending Super PACs, Mitch? Really?

Good luck with that one.

WE'RE MAKING ASSES OF OURSELVES AND IT'S ALL OBAMA'S FAULT!!!111!!

/now cry like a Boehner

I really do wonder what it's like being a completely soulless shell of a human like McConnell. He's basically The Gimp with a turtle mask.

2012-02-09 09:30:53 AM
Blinding.

Mitch just wishes he could come right out and say, "Mind your place, boy, or it's back to the fields for you."

2012-02-09 09:32:46 AM
We already get laughed at for our meth-addled, toothless, oxycontin gobbling, in-bred hillbillies, Mitch.

You are not helping!

I now feel the need to get a "Liberal Thug" t-shirt.

(This must be McConnell's plan to stimulate the economy)

2012-02-09 11:07:03 AM
Without singling him out directly by name, McConnell will point the finger at New York Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer for seeking public hearings into super PACs, saying he's calling "law-abiding citizens before a congressional panel just because they happen to support causes that he doesn't."

LOLWAT????

so a senator is doing something and it is all the presidents fault??
bhwhahahahahahaha
how cute

Oh, it's Mitch McConnell.

Can you explain this tactic to me.

Pick a target (that one makes sense)
freeze it (no farking clue what that means, sounds cool though)
personalize it (I think I understand this)
polarize it (you can't polarize a target)

"McConnell, whose friend [Bob] Bennett was chased out of office by the tea party and who has ever since then feared being outed by the fanatical right wing as an earmarking, foreign aid lover, has nothing to offer CPAC as red meat except hypocritical attacks on partisan tactics," the aide said.

I think it's like this:

Barack Obama (target)
Obama has a connection with Bill Ayers (lock in, or freeze, the point so no amount of rational explanation will change the perception)
Bill Ayers is a domestic terrorist who wants to harm you (tell people why they should be afraid of the point)
Domestic terrorists like Ayers are anti-American. (you can polarize a target - see Freedom Fries after 9/11.)

Right wing media is outstanding at it. Sean Hannity in particular is a master.

In your example. France was not polarized. The US (certain idiots) were polarized against France. You can't "polarize" one thing/target.

Is the target supposed to be a person or a thing? Couldn't a policy be a target (e.g., Solyndra, HCR).

It still isn't clear but it sounds cool. Machiavelli/Rove tactics are easier to understand.

It's probably issues in general, where the "polarize" naturally follows successful use of "freeze" and "personalize".

Target: abortion
Freeze: solidify the terms of the debate: "protecting the innocent"
Personalize: "big government wants to abort your children"
Polarize: "how can you be for killing children"

Target: health care reform
Freeze: "government takeover of health care"
Personalize: "getting between you and your doctor"
Polarize: "government bureaucrats"

Target: education policy
Freeze: "failing public schools" or "school choice"
Personalize: "you can choose your child's school!"
Polarize: "why don't you want to choose your kid's school"

Target: terrorism
Freeze: "national security"
Personalize: "they hate your freedoms"
Polarize: "blank, otherwise the terrorists win"

To be fair, try seeing things from Mitch McMconnell's point of view. That is, from the point of an old, rich, white, lying, hypocritical, racist, Kentucky asshole.

Well done. I'd adjust it.

Target: policy and/or person

Define: framing the issue is probably the most important step (your first two examples were very good). If this is what they mean by "Freeze", I get it.

Personalize: this one is all about pushing those primal emotions (also good examples)

Mobilize: isn't this the step where you want people write, vote or donate etc...? The term "polarize" just doesn't work for me.

Do you really believe that's what would happen? Or is it much more likely that universal, single payer healthcare would pass in a heartbeat, and improve the lives of millions of Americans while being hailed as a non-partisan sucess by the sort of adults who don't base their opinions on making the other team's "head expolode"?

Nope. As soon as Obama said 'Cool, I can get behind that', the Republicans would, every last one of 'em, vote 'no' on the bill. Including the ones who wrote it.

Muta: The GOP should take a Lib cause like universal, single payer healthcare and make it their own. The LOLz would be epic as we watch Obama's head explode.

Case in point. Us vs. Them. Liberals vs. Conservatives. There is no middle, there is no other option. Everyone who does not fully support the GOP platform is a liberal. Anyone who is a liberal is an enemy and defeating the enemy is the only goal.

You guys seem to forget there is about 60% of the country that falls somewhere in the center. If the GOP nominated legitimate small government and individual rights candidates like Gary Johnson or Buddy Roemer, you would run the table. I'd vote for either of those guys over Obama, but I would never in a million years vote for any of the schmucks you are running now.

Obama will win in November not because he is a liberal, but because he is a centrist. Unfortunately, your base has made centrism the enemy. Enjoy the death of your party.

Mobilize certainly seems a better term than polarize, though in these cases, the mobilization is done with polarization (gotta defeat those libs!).
