Los Angeles may fine you $1,000 if you throw any object besides a beach ball or volleyball on a beach without a permit. Feel free to throw an objectless fit at no cost, however

The supervisors probably hope that the fines will replace revenue lost after the removal of red-light cameras.

Your kids could also end up costing you big bucks: the ordinance also prohibits digging any hole deeper than 18 inches into the sand except where permission is granted for film and TV production services only.
Horseshiat! Digging holes in the sand is awesome! Especially when you dig 2 holes and connect them with a tunnel a few feet down. It's so much fun!
Oh, the other rules are complete crap, too. Why is a frisbee or football more likely to injure someone than a volleyball?
Exceptions allow for ball-throwing in predesignated areas
1) That's a sad sentence
2) I'd really like to know more about those areas. It should include "the beach, because people want to have fun there".

Tossing a frisbee or a football is illegal but getting high (with a doctor's note) is ok? Can we just have a "California" tag now on here?

The Board of Supervisors this week agreed to
raise
fines to up to $1,000 for anyone who throws a football or a Frisbee on any beach in Los Angeles County.
So there were already fines? lol.
Ah hell, crowded beaches suck anyway.

The updated rules now prohibit "any person to cast, toss, throw, kick or roll" any object other than a beach ball or volleyball "upon or over any beach" between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
That should be interesting, since every ounce of kicked sand is composed of several tens of thousands of individual objects.

I'm not surprised at all. California will also hand out $176 tickets for not having a front license plate, even if your vehicle is from a state that does not make or issue front plates.

I don't know your obsession with the man but Woz even forgave him. He's a cut throat businessman with some issues because he was abandoned as a newborn.
Lets dig deep into your life and see what we find, I bet it's all roses, right? You're a sad little child. And a disgusting perverted one at that with your last sentence. Go jump in a freezing lake you piece of trash. Take your anger out on yourself for humanities sake. He did more for the world in one hour of his life than you will ever do your pathetic existence. Seriously, must we legislate every aspect of life, and fine people for veering from the moranic rules you come up with? I could almost understand the football thing, but a fine for digging in the sand? What are you gonna do? Have the police walk around with yardsticks measuring how deep a kid digs a hole? You people are money grubbing assholes, and will think up anything that will net you more cash. Was going to take the family down there, but now that i can't throw a ball with my son, or a Frisbee, and i would have to stand over him while he plays in the sand, lest he invoke a fine for digging in it, fark it. Wanna have fun, not have to just sit there like a feeb.

My friends and I once dug a hole on the beach in CA that was awesome. It was about 6 feet deep 10x12, had a staircase, and a table. I can't imagine what the fine would be for that.

I would almost bet that this has more to do with insurance than anything else and the insurance carrier either made them come up with the ordinance or came up with it themselves. That way, if someone is in violation and injures themselves or others, and sues, they won't have standing in court.

Logic and reason? In Los Angeles county? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! It will never happen. Remember, they put very expensive homes on cliffs over the ocean then act shocked when it actually rains and the entire thing slides into the Pacific. Logical, reasonable behavior is not exactly your average Los Angeleno's strong suit. Attempting to utilize it may actually get you kicked out of the entire county.
The best thing about LA isn't the beaches anyway. It's stalking taco trucks down alleys and prowling the garment district telling the nice Asian ladies who rule the area that you want to buy one dress or one belt or bag instead of the entire lot. "NO! You buy all twelve!" Ah, good times.

Not sure if serious, but I have family that lives in Southern California. They say that lots of people out there with expensive cars don't want to 'make them ugly' by putting a license plate on the front, so they just accept the occasional fines as part of the cost of owning the car.
