I never knew that stars could be almost as old as the universe until today.

"Almost" in this context being 500 million years. That's still a hefty chunk of time.

I meant more along the lines of "I never knew stars lasted that long".

Anyone mind linking the image? Io9 is giving my mobile the old "hi! I'm a server!"

I love stuff like this because of how insignificant it makes me.

I will last about 60 or more years depending on circumstance. The universe will last for billions and billions and billions of years.

I am so tiny that as an individual I can barely lift my own weight. The universe can move a million galaxies.

I am tiny, temporary, and without purposes or power. But unlike the unaccountable collection of planets, stars, galaxies, and every other grouping of atoms infinity more powerful than myself, I know I exist.

Weakness and such limited life is a small price to pay for the gift of knowing the universes existence.

Whenever I look at a picture like that I wonder if I'm looking at some ancient civilization that once existed among those stars but has long since perished. It also makes me think about the fact that I have a load of clothes in the dryer and I forgot to take them out. Now they're all wrinkly. Dang it.

My God, it's full of ANCIENT stars

It WAS full of ANCIENT stars. A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.

That is a really awesome picture of a 6000 year old globular cluster.

And the thing that most concerns a God who created a hundred billions stars each in a hundred billion galaxies is...

whether or not YOU used contraception.

It is human nature to think we're the center of the universe and that we're the only thing that a supreme being would ever keep its attention on.

Stellar nucleosynthesis created the elements that constitute the
atomic-level components of the human body.

The iron in our hemoglobin was scattered across space by the
explosions of supernovas.

We are tiny and ephemeral but we came from Something infinite.
We came from the stars, and to them we must return when we lay
these forms to rest.

It is not merely a mechanistic process!!

Infinity is God. God and Infinity -- the same.

You must explore. You MUST reach out.

There are Powers in this Universe beyond anything you know.

Go and give thought to the Mysteries of the Universe.
