I think the problem is in believing she's intellectually honest about any of her positions or picks. Sure, you'd think she'd be a Gingrich woman (one of many haha). But the question we must ask ourselves in regard the Queen of the Provocateurs is not, "Why Romney?" but "What's her angle this time?"

FTFA: There is no conservative writer that I admire more than Ann Coulter. She's smart as hell and, more importantly, she is courageous.

That might be one of the saddest things I've ever seen anyone write.

What could there be about Obama to have Coulter place greater value over beating him than her own political values? It would have to be an aspect of her personality greater than pure political partisanship. She was willing to have Hillary win instead of backing McCain.

Like McCain Romney is a centrist also (even more so) but she must really be against Obama for some drastic Liberal position he has taken. Raising taxes? Can't be that. Soft on terrorism? Nope. Grabbing guns? No. Left of Romney on health care. No. What is it? Religion? That doesn't fit. Obama's height? Romney's pretty tall.

Why could she stomach Hillary over McCain and not Obama over Romney? I can't think of anything.

Article in summary: Ann Coulter (a part of the media) supports Romney. Why is she acting like a part of the media?

The article is simply trashing Coulter for supporting Romney. In 2008 she thought McCain wasn't conservative enough, so it's almost ironic* now that she's praising Romneycare, and of course accusing the media of pushing Gingrich on us.

*Or disingenuous, even.

First, Coulter apparently didn't notice, but the Democrats did socialize housing, and it triggered the most dangerous financial crisis since the Great Depression.

He almost lost me when he started his article with "There is no conservative writer that I admire more than Ann Coulter.", because that statement shows what an idiot the author is.

Then, I thought about it. Given that the last admirable conservative author (Buckley) is dead and they are all babbling idiots (Crystal), I guess she is top of the shiatpile.

Just FYI, I think Bill Maher might say the same things about her. They're BFFs, you know.

// she IS smart (but, like Gingrich, uses it for evil, not for good), and whether you're a tree-hugger or poor-people-kicker, you have to admit it
// it DOES take courage* - large heaps of it - to call 9/11 widows AWs
// and admiration is a point of personal preference - so the writer outed himself as a dumbass (especially while George Will and PJ O'Rourke still have keyboards); Maher might not agree to that point

* and a complete disregard for empathy and compassion

FTA:"But something has happened to Coulter. I don't have firsthand knowledge that she was kidnapped by RINO Team Six and taken to an offshore medical facility where she was forced to undergo a gruesome surgical procedure, but many of her recent columns suggest that something of the sort must have occurred. What else could explain her endorsement of Mitt Romney?

It's a little procedure called money and/or power. Which does she want/need/crave the most? This is the woman of the right. To assume she wouldn't set her own mother on fire and piss her out for for money or power is assinine, I don't care how badly the author wants to believe she is the paragon of high-mindedness and conservative virtue. Romney is in a position to offer her both in abundance if he wins. She's probably smart enough to know Newt would bang her, but wouldn't empower her.

I didn't think right-wingers were smart enough to have a version of the Onion. They can't tell the difference between satire and reality, a la that governor who thought that the $8b Abortionplex was real.

I don't see the mystery here. None of the people she wanted are running, she looked at the field and said "who do I think has the best chance to beat Obama" and is supporting that candidate. Stop trying to overthink this.

Occam's razor, also known as Ockham's razor, and sometimes expressed in Latin as lex parsimoniae (the law of parsimony, economy or succinctness), is a principle that generally recommends that, from among competing hypotheses, selecting the one that makes the fewest new assumptions usually provides the correct one, and that the simplest explanation will be the most plausible until evidence is presented to prove it false.

I just scanned a couple of paragraphs and was surprised by the frequent references to "the media" wanting to run against Romney.

WTF? Is that really how Republicans think, that they are running against "the media" rather than the Democratic candidate? Do American Spectator and Faux News not count as "media" somehow?

Or is this another one of those right-wing dog whistle code words, and when they say "the media", their readers hear something else?

/Inquiring minds, etc.

czetie: WTF? Is that really how Republicans think, that they are running against "the media" rather than the Democratic candidate? Do American Spectator and Faux News not count as "media" somehow?

First question: Yes. It allows the Party of Personal Responsibility, when they lose, to say, "whew...it was the media's fault. We're not responsible for failing that badly!"

Second question, no...although the reasons why they don't count as media differ depending on if you're talking to a "Conservative", or anyone else in the world.

The only thing that terrifies the media about Romney is that he might not get the GOP nomination. This is the man they want to run against.

If the liberal media was actually liberal they wouldn't be backing the man who every poll shows as the most likely to defeat Obama, they'd be propping up Gingrich, Santorum, or one of the earlier kook-dropouts.
