I used to shoot a bow and arrow, then I took a trick shot to the knee.

Man this DudePerfect stuff really annoys me. These guys seem to like themselves very much, no matter how many takes are required.

Trick shots? Not really much there

got nothing on the Real Masters of Trick Shots

Really annoying how damn proud of himself he is after each successful shot. If he was actually good at this, he'd *expect* to have successful shots, not celebrate like crazy afterwards when he finally pulls it off.

You should probably get a life instead of analyzing a YouTube video like it's the Zapruder film.

I say this as a friend.

Isn't aiming with a bow and arrow to a target easier than shooting the basketball which requires more angle calculation and the muscle memory of your arms/shoulders? Some of the distance shots are obviously not easy, but I would think it would take significantly less tries than shooting with a B&A

Yeah, I thought I might see some comment like that. Admittedly, my statement was poorly written and did not properly express my thoughts.

I personally don't find a lot of entertainment value in "trick shot" videos. They are always a compilation of the made shots with no hint about how many takes were required. The DudePerfect Team really confuses me, because these guys seem to have a lot of time to dedicate to this.
The statement about liking themselves wasn't so much about cheering after a made shot; it was more about how much they advertise their videos.

Fair points, both of you, but the guy is demonstrating Tebow levels of amped-up-ness. But hey, at least he's having fun outside instead of pissing on people on the internet.

The big thing would be adapting to how the big, old, nerf ball on the front is going to change the flight path of the arrow.

After that just always just aim for the back of the rim. The shot at 1:01 really shows how it works. The guy is standing above the basketball, so he shoots downwards and aims for the back of the rim/back of the net. Arrow hits the rim/net, cases moving forward and instead moves downwards for the basket.

I'd be more impressed if they weren't pretty much always higher up than the basket and shooting down into it. The arrow pretty much just has to follow a linear flight path. Once you teach yourself to shoot on that flight path, it is easy enough.

/still they put some time in to getting good with the nerfball on the front

It would be impressive if he didn't do anything other than the same shot 100 times in a row or if he wasn't using a compound cheater bow.

also, I'd like to see him match anything shot by this guy (new window)

That first video cracked me up.

Saw Ferguson at a 2 day shoot about 15 years ago, he was fairly close to his targets (5-8yds), I'd guestimate 35-40# bow.

/have a Ferguson longbow, hellacious hand shock.
//been shooting barebow Green Mountain Longbows (no longer in production, fine cabinetry was more lucrative for bowyer) for ~17 yrs, much better experience.

I haven't shot a bow since camp when i was a kid BUT....

Isn't he pulling it back wrong? I though proper technique was to put the bow up over your head, then pull as you lowered it to shooting position?

My father bought my brother and I a basic bow when we were pretty young and we practiced on tuna cans from about 20-25 yards, and got pretty accurate. When I was older I had a 45lb, sightless, compound (I don't hunt so 45 was a good pull-weight for dicking around) just for fun. I used to do target shooting with a friend (who was a hunter). We'd go out in the woods and put targets out (milk jugs, 2 liter containers) and take turns taking shots at them. He'd get pissed because even with his 75lb compound with sights, I'd still out shoot his ass.

/I should go buy some arrows and take a walk in the woods.

The first time I saw it, I thought the same thing. It reminded me of one of the most impressive things I ever saw: the lighting of the Olympic torch in (I think) the Barcelona Summer games in the 80's. The last torch-runner lit a flaming arrow, which a master archer loosed into the brazier high above. He practiced that shot hundreds of times. Even though he made it, they had an electronic igniter in place in case he missed.

Not really. With a modern compound, it's pretty bad form to put it up over your head to get it pulled back. If you have to put it over your head that means you're pulling too much weight and you'll probably never be as accurate as the bow is capable.

I found it amusing enough - and the bloppers at the end with the Panda had me laughing out lol.

Fark has gone so far downhill. Not matter what gets posted, these days more people post hate than good. Sad, really.

Auto-tuned song in the background meant insta-mute. Then the video was boring.
I may go back for bloopers.

I'd have to say the bow & arrow trick shots were around before basketball.
