stop celebrating folks.

Romney just pulled ahead in Colorado.

But don't despair, they just counted the suburbs outside of Denver (which are strong Romney supporters). There's still all the other counties that haven't been counted.

Earguy: Only 8% of precincts reporting in Colorado, but Santorum has 49% of the vote there.

Oh, could you imagine the LULz if Santorum wins all these, big?

I feel a mix of lulz and sheer terror that this guy is considered capable, by so many people, of being President.

He's Rick Santorum. What in the fark are they thinking? Oh god

Anyways, those precincts are pretty far-flung... I think Romney will win the cities.

buckler: It's more like an email. The message is encoded and transmitted as a single packet via a slow-transmission node-to-node protocol. Since the packet is indivisible, this results in a binary "transmission successfull/unsuccessful" outcome. This may result in inadvertent transmission to the incorrect address, but more likely, a failure to transmit will result in multiple attempts, with the transmission effort ultimately being discontinued, or the packet returned to the original sender, depending on the originating address being read by the transmitting systems.

This has made my evening better. Thank you.

One doesn't count and two are to elect delegates who will then elect regional delegates who will then elect state delegates who will then pledge to a candidate in April. It's worse than preseason football.

iq_in_binary: kronicfeld: Three Crooked Squirrels: polling 2nd in Colorado

The state that gave us Romer v. Evans. No surprise. Gay-hating bigots.

You've never been to Denver or Boulder, have you? The reason that referendum got anywhere near the ballot was because of the minority yet extremely religious right wing here in CO that is only ever relevant in towns small enough to fit its entire population into a single church every Sunday that unfortunately account for almost a third of the population in the state. Denver and the surrounding metro areas (Ft. Collins, Boulder, Aurora, Castle Rock, etc.) are very liberal. That referendum got snuck through and practically every small town hick flocked to their church to vote on it, which resulted in it passing by an extremely narrow margin because us "city folk" have more important things to do sometimes than voting on an off year election.

Every attempt since by the same church to get the "Personhood Amendment" through has not only failed spectacularly but is usually met with rather vicious opposition.

If you looked any further than that you'd realize that a lot of what you'd consider to be "Liberal" in popular culture is Denver Metro based. Chipotle, Mapquest, Quiznos, Spicy Pickle, Quark, Beatport, Examiner.com, MPEG LA, and more wind farms and green energy solutions opening up on a municipal level (read: not private, paid for by ballot referendums and bonds) than any other state in the country. Hell, Denver's LGBT community is healthier than San Francisco's almost.

We're pretty liberal over here, we just have the moonbats in the hills that shiat in the pool every now and then.

Mostly correct but you're forgetting the huge evangelical stronghold of Colorado Springs which skews any GOP primary results.

Colorado went 60+ % for Obama in 2008. In 2010 we elected a (D) Governor and a (D) Senator. If anything the independent voters repulsion of the whack job evangelicals and their fringe candidates means this state is safely in the blue.

2012-02-07 10:35:36 PM

thoughtpol:
See, the unemployment figure is not going to get better anytime soon partly because people will re-enter the labor pool at about the rate jobs are created until the labor pool returns to its pre-2007 proportions. That means that if Obama can lose this election, they can easily be single-term presidents as well. Best to go against a non-incumbent and give the economy a chance to recover fully.

i'd like to respectfully disagree here... if you look at the employment reports for recent months you'll find that the labor force is growing more slowly than the population, which means the labor force as a percentage of the country is contracting.

personally i believe this is due to people feeling better about the economy - that is, some people who did not work before the recession were forced into the labor force due to family/whatever circumstances - but IANAE(conomist).

for whatever reason, though, that's what happening, which is the opposite of what you said. this is why the unemployment rate is shrinking at the rate it is: jobs are being created AND the workforce is either contracting in real terms (some months) or contracting relative to the population (meaning it expands, but not much, in real terms).

The labor pool contracts in a recession as some people take the opportunity to leave the labor pool and become students, for example, or homemakers, etc. But as the economy gets better, those people return to the labor pool. The unemployment rate is a measure of how many people in the labor pool have jobs. That's true for this most recent recession. The labor pool shrank. The number not in the labor force in January still increased from 1/11 to 1/12. But when the unemployment rate starts dropping, that will reverse.

So Ari Fleischer was just on CNN claiming that "the media" is going to "paint Santorum as an extremist" on social issues now.

He IS an extremist! He thinks Lawrence v. Texas was a mistake. He thinks we should re-criminalize sodomy. He literally believes that Americans have no right to privacy, even heterosexual Americans, because what Americans do in their own bedrooms is harmful to the nation and against the public interest. Santorum thinks contraception should be illegal. If you use condoms, Santorum has a problem with that, and he thinks it's his and everyone else's farking business.

He is insane. And he literally wants America to be a kind of Catholic theocracy, but without Catholicism's compassion, and their commendable interest in helping impoverished people.

Yeah I've seen the reports come in from my county (Arapahoe), and Romney's leading. Most of the Republics I know might grudgingly vote for him too. Hoping the farmers pull it in for Santorum, for the lols though.

It really is the best seltzer though.

Sure, I know it's all the same, it's just carbonated water. But cheaper brands don't retain its carbonation as well. It may just be the quality of the seal between the bottle and the cap.

With 42% of the caucuses reporting in - only 10k people are reported to cast a vote. In 2008 - 62,828 showed up for the GOP caucus. Even considering some of the larger precincts haven't reported in yet - that is a rather large drop in caucus voters.

I'd love to see a brokered convention at least once in my lifetime. And it would be super lulzy if that goes down in Florida.
