bravian: CapnBlues: Funny how Clinton was the most anti-gun president ever and the only limitation he ever managed to pass was a ban on specific makes and models of firearms and on the manufacture but not sale of high-capacity magazines.

I still own two of those high-capacity magazines purchased during that time.

yeah, my old man has a few, too. he didn't go nuts with it, though, because he knew the prices would come down as soon as the bill expired.

BSABSVR: CapnBlues: what's the deal with colorado? the results haven't changed in like 20-30 minutes. is that a problem on my end, or are other people getting that?

It seems to be everybody. From the Denver Post twitter feed:

RT @lynn_bartels: SNAP! RT @mattinzeo: If GOPers supported education, maybe they could count results faster #COcaucus

ROFL okay.

yeah, seems to be moving again.

Santorum 42% Romney 31% with 26% reporting.

Epic lulz.

bobbette: I just tuned out Ron Paul for what felt like 20 minutes. I'm just assuming that I've heard it all before.

It was notable only because of his emphasis on delegates at the beginning of his speech. I think Paul is planning on a brokered convention, and intends to continue running his campaign and wasting college libertarians' money.

Is Gingrich even planning on speaking tonight?

Holy shiat. I've never heard Ron Paul's campaign song before (skip to 1:10).

This is awful, hilarious, and really creepy at the same time. How crazy do you have to be to play a song about yourself at your campaign stops? Especially one with lyrics like this:

We don't want big government
Or the Bilderberg group that pays for it

when our names turn to numbers like 666
according to the gospel on implantable chips

Wow....

bobbette: organizmx: Things I know about Santorum.

- He believes gay sex should be a criminal act, adding that privacy is not a constitutional right.
- Says that getting your child a college education is akin to getting your child "brainwashed".
- Said that he "doesn't want to make black peoples' lives better".
- Told a sick kid who complained about the price of his medicine "People have no problem paying $900 for an iPad, but paying $900 for a drug they have a problem with. Why?"

Anyone else want to add to this list?

Rape victims should "make the best out of a bad situation". Hey raped women, god's giving you a gift, your rapist's offspring! YAY
"I think the right approach is to accept this horribly created -- in the sense of rape -- but nevertheless a gift in a very broken way, the gift of human life, and accept what God has given to you." - Rick Santorum on the upside of rape

Plus: Rick Santorum's Top 10 horrible statements at Think Progress... it's unthinkable that this guy is even in the race.

Well, if you think a fetus is a person, which is really a postulate that you either have or don't have, then you are forced to conclude that rape victims, if otherwise healthy, may not be allowed to abort. We don't give rapists the death penalty. Why should the death penalty be applied to their children?

phritz: Let me get this straight ... in Minnesota, a fairly normal midwestern state (Bachman's district notwithstanding), the supposed front runner is well under 20% - basically, vote totals you'd expect from a fringe-candidate. Am I reading this wrong?

Romney spent like 3 seconds here. Santorum (giggle) spent a lot of time here. Ron Paul as well. And less than half the number of the 2008 caucus showed up to vote. Doesn't take much to push things to the fringe with low numbers.

that bosnian sniper: Oh god, please let there be a brokered convention. I promise I will definitely deny your existence less fervently than before. Bonus points for 1968-style riots and shootings involving geriatrics and baby boomers.

Baby boomers are geriatrics now. I imagine Occupy protestors would play the yippies in this production. Does anyone have a Pigasus handy?

PS - I was supposed to email you a bunch of months ago but your email wasn't up and then I forgot until now.

Honest to Christ, the next couple of weeks may be the longest of Mitt's pampered life. And at the end? Arizona, one of the most shiat nut states in the Union and one Santorum may win as well heading into Super Tuesday.

Either way, there's no way this ends for him until at least Super Tuesday. Never in my wildest dreams did I hope for that. And meanwhile Gingrich just may go into full Hulk mode further damaging all of them.

Thank you GOP!

James F. Campbell: simplicimus: But the church has taken a hard turn to the right recently. I guess to gain market share from the fundies, I don't know.

Your religion is dying, and it needs a blood transfusion to stay alive.

What they really need to do is to try to force the government to allow the Catholic Church to deny any health care coverage for any birth control products to the people that work for them, even though about 98% of Catholic workers say they use birth control.

That's really going to inspire people to come back to the church. Here I was, a former Catholic, sitting and reading about how they're doing this to their workers, and I thought to myself, "Maybe I was wrong about the Catholic Church. Those guys are really principled after all. I should go to church this Sunday and give them at least $20 for standing up to their own workers on this issue. I mean, if they're going to treat the people that work for them like that, they might come after me next."

I will. They had 9 candidates. 7 of them said, "let's continue sanctions against Iran, and back up Israel if they want to attack Iran." Ron Paul said, "Let's stop messing with both Iran and Israel, no aid, no sanctions, no starting wars for anyone." And Santorum said, "Let's just go to war with Iran regardless of what Israel says".

He also said "My wiggly weiner is totally hitting on me right now!". So...I am calling it a wash.

And, as predicted, ol' Rickie blasts everyone in power for not letting religion (specifically Rickie's religion) stomp on everyone else. Way to blow your goodwill, Rickie.

jbc: It's probably a good bet some of those voters plan on voting for Obama in the fall and voted for Santorum today just to fark with Romney.

Actually, the comedy over at the KOS is that Barack Obama beat Mitt Romney in the Missouri primary.

Let me repeat that: Barack Obama, running unopposed in the Democratic primary, got more votes than Mitt Romney did.

Well, that idea takes two assumptions: fetuses are children, and that "allowing the mother the right to choose" is the same as "killing every single last one of them."

Once in a while I pull out my giant paintbrush and say "if you're a Republican in 2012, there's something wrong with you." Every time I do, a few "moderate" "conservative" "Republicans" will take issue and tell me how it's a small group of crazies making all the noise, but the rank and file is a silent majority of "just folks" like you and me.

Then Rick Santorum wins two states in one night in the GOP Presidential primary.

Actions speak louder than words, and tonight your actions proved me right. Anyone who is a Republican in 2012 has got to be a lunatic.

At this point the party establishment has to be thinking seriously about how it can get Jeb Bush into the raise by Super Tuesday. Romney obviously cannot win over conservatives.

I still think he's going to win the nomination, and after tonight, I say Santorum is the frontrunner for VP -- which is honestly scarier than Sarah Palin being a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

From Daily KOS: Meanwhile, back in Missouri, a little extra indignity for Mitt: Barack Obama now leads him in actual votes: 64,019 to 63,489.

He's losing to a guy for which absolutely nobody had to turn out and vote. Unreal.

For what it's worth, I'm in Missouri and went and voted for Santorum as an inside joke to my friends that can use Google. In no way shape or form did I think I was actually going to be a part of Santorumentum

2012-02-07 11:39:01 PM
I'm still trying to wrap my head around how lame Mitt is with all the money and machinery advantages to produce so little. He's like the University of Texas Longhorn football program the last few years. Operating budget of $100+ million, state of the art facilities, 4 star recruits up and down the roster, playing in a weak conference and finishing 7-6 on the season.

I don't think the party would survive. Not that I think that's a bad thing. But if they end up with a four way brokered convention, given how Santorum is trying to appeal to the religious nuts, Paul is trying to appeal to the nuts nuts and so on, you might have divisions so deep the party rips at the seams.

Yeah Adams is the more churches per capita than any other county in metro denver county.

I think either Romney or Paul will take Denver, Paul would most likely take Jefferson (More gun owners per capita and gun shops per capita than any other county in the nation), Romney will take Garfield maybe, Arapahoe is up in the air (Saudi Aurora is always wierd), Paul might have a shot at the rest of the Metropolitan counties if not Santorum.

Rick Perry has to be kicking himself. He was exposed as a barely functional retard, but if he would have stayed in the race eventually he would have gotten another turn to be the anti-Romney. And unlike Santorum and Newt he actually had some money and campaign machinery at beck and call to be dangerous to Mitt.
