Swat a Gadfly: YourAFattie: stop celebrating folks.

Romney just pulled ahead in Colorado.

But don't despair, they just counted the suburbs outside of Denver (which are strong Romney supporters). There's still all the other counties that haven't been counted.

*cross fingers*

Funny, Santorum leading by 50% after 7% of reporting according to AP.

I was looking at CNN, which currently has them both at 37%

Benevolent Misanthrope: Coco LaFemme: Hey, the more primaries/caucuses are divvied up amongst all the assholes running, the better. I want a brokered convention, and if there isn't a clear "running away with it" candidate by then, I'm going to laugh myself sick.

I was just thinking that very thing - if they don't have a clear candidate - and I hope they don't, for the lulz of a brokered convention - I am going to laugh myself silly.

This. Holy crap, just when I thought the GOP train wreck couldn't get any better/worse...

It's a night full of Santorum. My God.
Right after Prop-8 gets kicked.
Priceless.

2012-02-07 10:50:09 PM

BSABSVR: Republican voters are, by and large, OK with big government if it's things they like. Romney is talking about restoring Medicare money and increasing military spending at the same time he blames Obama for spending.

I get that GOP voters are largely hypocrites when it comes to their man (or women) in power. But I read into the original comment that Santorum best communicates the GOP platform which is supposed to be "small government" when he is the exact opposite in every way.

2012-02-07 10:50:20 PM
Looking at the Google Politics results, Romney hasn't won a single county in any of tonight's three states. Not a one.

The problem with depending on Denver and Boulder to swing it back to Romney is that you are assuming there will be Republican voters in those counties.

my brother-in-law is one in boulder county, but i think he may be the only i've ever heard of.

/there's actually a considerable population of engineers, defense contractors, and gun nuts in boulder. they're just not as visible because they tend to be at work a lot.

Santorum is on the attack against Obama tonight and saying he never listened to the people.

"He thinks he's smarter than you.."

You know what, I feel absolutely no shame in saying that I think Obama is smarter than me, as well.

Seriously. you'd think he would blanket these states like he did FL just to end this thing early.

CapnBlues: bravian: Jamespoon: Minnesota belongs to Santorum.

This shiat just gets weirder and weirder.

With 42% of the caucuses reporting in - only 10k people are reported to cast a vote. In 2008 - 62,828 showed up for the GOP caucus. Even considering some of the larger precincts haven't reported in yet - that is a rather large drop in caucus voters.

/and its 20 degrees here and calm - no weather excuse to not vote

it's almost like the GOP has gone batshiat insane and most of their voters want nothing to do with them.

Romney won this state in 2008 with 41%. Now he is coming in third.

2012-02-07 10:53:55 PM
While I'm enjoying the shiat out of these results, I can't actually stand listening to him speak, so it's over to ESPN for a while.

Romney doesn't win a single county in Missouri against an opponent who has no money, no machinery and can't run any advertising there.

I took it for granted that Mizzou was going red in 2012. Now I think it's a tossup (if Romney is the candidate).

2012-02-07 10:54:54 PM
Man, am I looking forward to the inevitable brokered convention that comes of this! I wonder if it will be like 1968, except that bigoted pastors are using pitchforks to attack all the Wall Street brokers that have come down to support their man Mitt and maybe buy some blow to snort off a Cuban hooker's titties.

I hear those Paulites have stockpiles of guns in order to somehow overthrow our giant government with lots of drones if things get too out of hand, though. Better not piss them off, or they might introduce you to their friends and personal bodyguard Smith & Wesson.

mantabulous: Frothy's a pretty awful public speaker

He stammers a lot. Too many ums and ahs, and weak delivery - he doesn't know when to pause, when to emphasize.

I think the actual content of his speech is spot-on for his constituency, but he fails to deliver it in an inspiring way.

Live in Boulder for a few years during the Clinton years. Always enjoyed hitting the local gun shop and counting the number of anti-Clinton bumper stickers in the parking lot.

Oh I agree that in reality he's a big-government guy, my opinion is that they actually believe that they believe that this IS small government. It's the "judicial activism is whatever decision I don't like" philosophy writ large. To them small government means shutting off funds to Planned Parenthood, getting rid of the Civil Rights attorneys in the DoJ, maybe defunding the EPA and Dept. of Education and....not much else. Get rid of the stuff I actively hate, maybe get rid of the stuff I'm apathetic towards, and we'll handwave the actual dollars and cents if it comes to that.

Santorum: Obama thinks he's better than you. Smarter than you. Privileged.

My dog is having a seizure at the sound of these whistles.

Based on the present turnout numbers - it wasn't 'his' voters that stayed home - it was 'most' voters that stayed home.

Funny how Clinton was the most anti-gun president ever and the only limitation he ever managed to pass was a ban on specific makes and models of firearms and on the manufacture but not sale of high-capacity magazines.

Dammit Fark

Ooh. How is that? I love Hefeweizens.

It's great, little citrus, crisp finish. They have IPA's as well that are pretty good. Like I said I made parts for them, they were based up the street, Park Ave and Broadway, shop I was working at is up off of 34th and Walnut. I got paid in cases of mislabels and smashcaps (improperly seated caps). Their whole lineup is pretty decent.

Yes, yes he did.

Right now he's talking about God-given rights vs. government-given rights.

Now he just said that people have no right to health care... but unlike when GOD gives you rights, the government can take them away. But... Santorum is the one who wants to take away the right to health care.

Does this even make sense?!

He follows it up with a rant about how Obamacare is oppressing Catholics and that Obama is imposing his secular values on the people of America.

His crowd just got a little quieter... I can't believe he went full Catholic theocrat in this, his most prominent speech to date.

Considering how many of his supporters pick on Obama's stutter, I'd love to hear their reasons why Obama's faint stammers are indicative of weakness while Santorum's are signs of strength.
