Given the loss of the 4th amendment during the current administration, one could agree with the CFP that change is needed. After all, it was Obama that signed the NDAA.

Teaching English in South Korea is the occupation of choice for young slightly-educated Canadians that are basically out of employment options domestically. I know several people who have done this.

DNRTFA, but judging by the Weeners ITT, conservatives are STILL pretending the NDAA was a big deal? Despite the fact that it was a necessary bill if our troops wanted their paychecks, it was veto proof, and oh yeah, did nothing that the farking AUMF (which even RON PAUL voted for) didn't already do?

I'm shocked conservatrolls deliberately ignore facts if it makes Obama look bad.

USA gave Canada a chance to collect on electoral votes in 1812. Seeing how that worked out, I'm not sure I care what a Canadian pundit has to say about the state of my union.

True. Also, I think a lot of people going to law school get a philosophy degree.

It's kind of sad, really. In France they have the same type of round table cable news shows as here in the US, and often the caption under a guests name is "philosopher". Like, they have real-life philosophers mixed in with the pundits and other politicians on the shows. It makes for great discussion, none of that indirect-non-answer-avoid-the-issue that nearly ALL politicians and pundits seem to do here.

While I appreciate Canadian concern, no matter how wrong-headed, over the future of our republic, let me just point out that here in the US, nobody has the slightest clue who's in charge in Canada or what your pressing issues are; in fact. nobody here has any interest in your opinions on any subject. Those of us on the left are slightly nonplussed, and those on the right slightly gratified, at your recent withdrawal from Kyoto and this whole "let us build a pipeline smack dab through the middle of your country so we can ship tar sands to Texas for processing and immediate export to China and Europe, lowering US energy costs not at all but making a shiatload of money for the fat cats in both countries" thing. The operative word is "slightly." Sorry, that's just the way it is. Nothing personal, we feel the same way about Costa Rica and Monaco. You're just too unimportant.

The US accounts for 73% of Canada's exports and 63% of Canada's imports. So, no, not really.

Why? Who are they going to trade with if not us? The Russians? Why do they want to build the pipeline in the first place? Because they lack the infrastructure to do the refining themselves, and they always will--because they are, in the final analysis, a teensy-tiny country, despite their enormous (empty) territory and vast (but inaccessible) resources. I like the Canadians, I respect them, but I simply can't take them seriously as an equal partner, because they're not our equals, not in any meaningful political or economic sense. They're not even our rivals. They're our waterboys. They're our wingmen.

Crazy right wing Canadians who have absolutely no representation at any local, provincial or federal level which makes them even angrier than their American counterparts.

But they have a webpage. So they got that going for them. Which is nice.

Perhaps this is feeding a troll, but here goes.

Canada is just over 1/10 the size of the US. That doesn't make us a small country. Norway, for example has a total population of around 4million. Iceland is only 300 000 or so. While not a large population we aren't small either.

Since the Keystone pipeline was blocked, the Canadian government is pushing for a pipeline directly through the rockies. So the oil will still go to China, but without the refining jobs in the US.

True, we are not equals. You are 10 times our size. We're not rivals, have no intention of being such. We are more like players on your team. Allies if you will.

TransCanada is going to apply again with an alternate route, most likely, and they'll probably be approved. It's a hell of a lot easier building a pipeline over relatively flat land as opposed to driving it through the Canadian Rockies.
